Tottenham: AC Milan targeting move for Japhet Tanganga -Premier League News

Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga could be next to head for the exit door after being targeted by AC Milan.

The Lowdown: On the sidelines

The Lilywhites academy graduate only made 11 appearances in the Premier League last season, being sidelined with a knee injury in February which brought a premature end to his campaign after he had already had to endure a considerable lack of game-time.

Antonio Conte is already closing in on the loan signing of Clement Lenglet and is also believed to be targeting Pau Torres again. That would pose a big problem for the future of the 23-year-old, who could now be on his way out of England, following in the footsteps of Steven Bergwijn, who today completed a move to Ajax.

The Latest: AC Milan target Tanganga

According to Sky Italia (via Sport Witness), AC Milan are exploring the possibility of signing Tanganga, with the centre-back admitting that he wants to be somewhere where he can ‘play continuously’.

The source claimed that the Serie A champions have met with with the defender’s agent, which is likely to have taken place to discuss the chances of the player making the switch to the San Siro this summer.

The Verdict: Best for both parties

With Lenglet’s arrival imminent, it could be even more difficult for Tanganga to make any impact on Conte’s starting XI, especially when he is already behind the likes of Eric Dier and Cristian Romero in the pecking order.

It’s harsh to realistically judge how the manager feels about the 23-year-old given that he hasn’t been available for selection in months.

Spurs fans, do you remember who scored your first goal of the season against Man City?

However, even before the injury, the Spurs manager only handed him six top-flight outings, fewer than what the Hackney-born talent would have hoped for.

Tanganga, who was once hailed as being on a ‘different level’ by former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho, should decide to leave if the opportunity arises so that he can get back playing regularly, while enabling Tottenham to reap a few million pounds for him at the same time.
