As per journalist Charlie Eccleshare of The Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur gem Tanguy Ndombele could now be handed his first ever start in the UEFA Europa Conference League against Rennes this evening (Twitter).
The Lowdown: Ndombele drama…
Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo has elected not to play the club record signing since he was appointed to replace Jose Mourinho in the summer.
Ndombele has been at the centre of exit drama after it was reported that he informed Spurs chiefs of his desire to leave N17.
Indeed, Nuno then confirmed that the Frenchman wanted to exit north London before deadline day on August 31 but it is claimed that Tottenham will not sell unless they can recuperate their club record fee (The Times).
The Latest: Ndombele back in contention…
After making an appearance on Tottenham’s bench at the weekend, it appears Ndombele is back in contention to play this evening after missing out on a summer move.
Should Ndombele start vs Rennes?
100 per cent, no brainer
No, let him rot
“Bergwijn is back and fit to face Rennes,” explained Eccleshare on Twitter.
“Ndombele in contention to start tomorrow night.”
The Verdict: Time to unleash…
It is no secret that the dazzling 24-year-old can certainly turn it on at his very best.
Indeed, the midfield maestro was scintillating at times under former boss Mourinho last season and has even been called ‘unbelievable’ by England internationals for Spurs, according to Declan Rice (The Metro).
He also averaged the highest rate of completed dribbles per 90 (2.2) out of any Tottenham player in the Premier League last year (WhoScored), with the only question mark being around his application.
If Nuno can get the best out of Ndombele on a consistent basis, we believe only the sky is the limit.
