Tottenham: Journalist claims talks have taken place over Piero Hincapie

Ryan Taylor has informed GiveMeSport that Tottenham Hotspur have held talks over a possible move for Piero Hincapie.
The Lowdown: Spurs keen on additions
This season has been a bizarre one for Spurs as they’ve dropped points against various mid-table clubs, but still find themselves just three points off the top four, which will delight Antonio Conte.
Spurs’ problems have been obvious for everyone to see as they simply don’t look solid enough at the back to mount a serious push for silverware, having shipped 31 goals in just 21 games.
Therefore, it’s no surprise that their sole signing on deadline day looks set to be Pedro Porro to offer them something at both ends of the pitch at right wing-back. However, they are seemingly not out of the running for Hincapie.
The Latest: Hincapie still an option
The Ecuador international is said to be a target for the summer, although Express journalist Taylor believes if a reasonable offer is on the table, Spurs could well move swiftly before the winter deadline.
He said: “There’s been a lot of dialogue with his representatives over a deal, they’re trying to sort of lay the groundwork for a summer move. But if Spurs feel like they can get him this month for an affordable price, I don’t see why they wouldn’t.”
The Lowdown: Tottenham should proceed with caution
Given that it’s deadline day and Tottenham haven’t been very active this month, many fans would likely be delighted to land Hincapie this late into the window to improve their backline and hand Conte another option in defence.
However, they should proceed with caution, as Kevin Hatchard insisted on Sky Sports that the defender is indeed still ‘raw’ and would need regular starts, otherwise, the move would a ‘big worry’ for him – though the European football expert also stated that Hincapie is indeed a ‘tremendous young player’,
But if Conte and Spurs can’t give him starts every game, they may as well wait until the summer when Clement Lenglet has departed.
