TalkSport's Alex Crook has claimed that Southampton's James Ward-Prowse would be 'good enough' to play for Antonio Conte's Tottenham Hotspur.

The Lowdown: Ward-Prowse to stay put in January

Fellow Premier League West Ham United was reportedly interested in a summer move for the Saints player, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist would then later claim on Caught Offside that Nathan Jones' side had no intentions of selling Ward-Prowse in January.

Southampton's captain has featured 20 times in the league this season, scoring five goals and producing two assists so far.

The Latest: Crook makes Spurs claim

Speaking live on TalkSport, Crook claimed that Ward-Prowse would succeed if he made the switch to Spurs. He believes staying in the Premier League would be his best career choice.

He stated (0:04), "I fear for them [Southampton] in terms of relegation. Surely that will be the time for James Ward-Prowse to leave the south coast.

"And what level of club does he go? I think he's a really talented midfielder, I think he'd be good enough for a club like Tottenham.

"I think he'd be good enough, maybe his backup for a club like Chelsea. He could walk into a team like West Ham, so I think he will have his suitors.

"I think if they go down, for the good of his career, surely, he has to make that move away."

The Verdict: Offers something different

We believe that adding Ward-Prowse, who has been hailed as 'unbelievable', to the midfield would add something unique to Tottenham's midfield.

Ex-Arsenal man and pundit Paul Merson has raved about the Englishman in the past, claiming that he offers an 'extra dimension' with his set-piece taking when writing for The Daily Star.

There's certainly not many better with a dead ball at their feet than the Southampton man. Indeed, he's currently tied with David Beckham for the most free-kicks scored in the Premier League. Making him one of the best in that department throughout the league's history, not just in the current day.

The possibility of Ward-Prowse whipping in set pieces with Harry Kane on the end of them is an exciting thought, and we're sure that the Spurs forward would love the idea of a dead ball specialist in his team. Harry Kane has currently contributed to 43% of Spurs' goals in the Premier League so far this season, so to bring in a creator and finisher like Ward-Prowse, who has 41% contribution at Southampton which includes five goals and two assists in the Premier League, would definitely bolster Conte's side.
