Journalist Dean Jones has been left excited by who could now join Tottenham Hotspur and manager Antonio Conte this summer.

As the Lilywhites begin to prepare for Conte's first full Premier League season in charge over 2022/2023, links have emerged to various transfer targets as Spurs' head coach reportedly eyes six major signings.

One player who could move to north London, according to recent reports, is Atalanta defender Joakim Maehle as Conte still sets his sights on a right-wing-back.

Italian regional newspaper Il Giorno even claimed that Spurs are willing to table a €18 million (£15m) bid and could hold talks 'in the coming weeks'  as they also discuss the future of loanee goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini.

The Latest: Jones thrilled...

Speaking to GiveMeSport, reacting to these claims Maehle could join Spurs, has claimed the Denmark international would be a 'perfect' Conte signing.

He explained:

"He’d be a perfect asset for Conte to have in his armoury.

“It’s one of the most important positions in a Conte setup, and I think it makes a lot of sense that in this market, at a time when they need quite a lot but haven’t got millions and millions to go and do it, they would look at somebody like Maehle.

“Somebody that could tick two boxes instead of just one.”

The Verdict: Make the bid?

For a fairly reasonable mooted fee of £15m, if Atalanta accept, Maehle could come as an absolute bargain.

The 24-year-old is able to play in a variety of roles, including Conte's much-desired RWB, with Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel even calling his international teammate a 'machine'.

Apparently a player who never stops running, he seemingly fits Conte's ideals in more ways than one.
