Transfer insider Dean Jones has shared what he knows about the Tottenham Hotspur rumours surrounding AS Roma forward Nicolo Zaniolo.

The lowdown: Spurs' linked

Recently, a report from Italian outlet Tuttosport claimed that Spurs had entered the race to sign Zaniolo alongside Serie A giants Juventus.

The 23-year-old Italy international is believed to be available for £42.5million and it has been suggested elsewhere that the north Londoners are in fact the 'only' suitor who can afford to buy the Fiorentina academy graduate.

Now, one well-informed onlooker has shed some further light on the perceived interest from Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici...

The latest: Perfect fit

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jones - a journalist for Eurosport - claimed that Tottenham are definitely 'interested' in the nine-cap star and sees the youngster as a great fit for Spurs.

He said: “I do think there’s something in the links, I do think he’s a player that Tottenham are interested in.

“If you consider Conte’s setup and consider the type of player he’s been signing, I think Zaniolo would be a really good fit.”

The verdict: Make it happen

Predominantly operating as a central attacking midfielder in his career to date, Zaniolo can also operate in wide positions and would therefore offer supreme versatility to Conte's attacking options, mirroring that of the now Ajax man Steven Bergwijn.

Last season, the Italian - who was hailed for a 'magic' winning goal by newspaper Corriere dello Sport to win the inaugural Europa Conference League for Jose Mourinho's side - scored eight times and provided nine assists in 42 appearances across all competitions, whilst mainly being utilised as a right-winger.

Seemingly back on track following a second ACL injury, Zaniolo's 111 Roma appearances have yielded 37 direct goal contributions to date and his impressive variety of attributes would be a superb addition to Conte's ranks, enabling the Lilywhites boss to implement alternative formations to his favoured 3-4-3.
