Tottenham could still complete the signing of Everton youngster Anthony Gordon in the January transfer window as he will not sign a long-term deal, journalist Paul Brown reports.
The Lowdown: Gordon linked with summer move
Spurs had a productive time of things during the summer window, making several key signings, and Gordon was yet another player who was linked with a move to north London.
A new update suggests that Antonio Conte may not have to wait too long to get his man, though.
The Latest: January deal could happen
Speaking to Give Me Sport, Brown claimed that there is no sign of Gordon signing a new deal at Everton, with the player’s representatives seemingly opening the door to Tottenham and Chelsea:
“I think it’s up to Everton to change his mind. Otherwise, they’re going to be in the same situation they were with him come January. It may be that the interest from those two clubs has waned a bit by then. We’ll see.
“But, if he has a brilliant few months, you can guarantee that Spurs, Chelsea and possibly other teams will be sniffing around because they know from his advisors that Gordon is not about to sign a new long-term deal tomorrow with Everton.”
The Verdict: Great squad option
At 21, Gordon is still a player learning his trade but he has already matured into arguably Everton’s best player, which says a lot about his ability.
The forward would provide even more attacking depth for Conte, not to mention being a long-term asset, and Alan Shearer has described him as a ‘fearless’ player, exactly the type of attitude Conte loves.
Would you like Kane to stay at Spurs?
Granted, the fee to bring him in would likely be vast, given his potential and the fact that he is English, but he could be worth every penny over time, becoming a key figure for Spurs and acting as a long-term replacement for Son Heung-min, who is now 30 years of age.
