Tottenham Hotspur are interested in securing an audacious move for Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak, according to a new transfer rumour which has emerged.

The Lowdown: Oblak an Atletico icon

The 29-year-old has been hailed as one of the best 'keepers in the world over the past decade or so, proving to be a rock for Diego Simeone's side.

Oblak has won one La Liga title with Atletico and made 360 appearances along the way, also being compared to Lionel Messi by his manager in terms of his influence on the team.

The Slovenian may have signed a new deal earlier this year but that hasn't stopped an exit rumour from doing the rounds.

The Latest: Spurs keen on Oblak

According to reports from Spain, Tottenham are keen on snapping up Oblak as a replacement for Hugo Lloris, who could depart at the end of the season.

Manchester United are also believed to be providing stiff competition for his services, with former Atletico stopper David De Gea now into his 30s as well.

The Verdict: Perfect Lloris successor

Oblak would have the potential to be an incredible signing for Spurs, considering that he is genuinely world-class in his position and would perhaps be an upgrade on Lloris.

With all due respect to the current Tottenham captain, his career save percentage and goal concession rate per 90 is inferior to the Atletico star, who has also been named Slovenian Footballer of the Year on four occasions and been a proven Champions League player over a sustained period.

Oblak is not just excellent on the pitch but has also been lauded for his attitude behind the scenes, with former Atletico player Milinko Pantic saying that the 'keeper "never complains", a character trait which any manager would surely appreciate.

Plus, at 29 he is six years Lloris' junior, so he wouldn't just be coming in as a quick fix. Indeed, he could be a hero at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for many years if he joins Spurs and replicates the performance levels he has shown in the Spanish capital.
