Tottenham: Paratici and Conte now both want Weston McKennie -Premier League News

Tottenham Hotspur are enamoured with Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie this summer but a worrying update could complicate matters.

The Lowdown: McKennie’s future up in the air

The American made 21 appearances in Serie A for Juve last season, not always managing to be a key starter but averaging 1.4 aerial wins and one chance created per game while chipping in with three goals.

McKennie has been linked with a move to Spurs in the recent past and could exit his current club this summer, with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2025.

Now, a fresh update suggests that could be a potential spanner in the works regarding the deal going through, but also reveals just how highly the player is thought of at Hotspur Way.

The Latest: Key update emerges

According to The Daily Mail, Spurs remain keen on signing McKennie in this window and he could cost around £34m, but Paul Pogba’s recent injury setback means Juve may want to keep hold of him.

It is claimed that the north Londoners have been keen on signing the 23-year-old for ‘more than a year’, with Paratici leading the change having previously brought him to Turin while Antonio Conte is also now a big fan due to the USA star’s versatility.

The Verdict: Get it done

The Pogba injury has certainly clouded the situation but if Juve are still willing to sell McKennie this summer then he could be a strong signing for Conte’s side.

The USA international, dubbed ‘incredibly underrated‘ and even dubbed the new Edgar Davids by scout Jacek Kulig, has made 75 appearances for Juventus, as well as winning 34 caps for his country and being hailed as the ‘the best American player playing in Europe’ by Massimiliano Allegri.

End product from midfield looks like the one area still arguably lacking ahead of the new season and McKennie could help solve that issue, ranking in the 98th percentile across Europe for midfielders getting touches in the opposition box.

He can also play in a three, four or five-man midfield, as well as being able to do a job as a right wing-back, so his versatility would be an added bonus for Spurs.
