Tottenham Hotspur expert John Wenham has reacted to some 'fantastic news' he's heard on midfield star Rodrigo Bentancur's injury.

The Lowdown: Bentancur's injury woes

According to Spanish sources, via Reuters, Bentancur suffered a tear in the abductor muscle of his leg during Uruguay's 2-0 victory against Ghana in their final game of the World Cup group stage.

However, reports out of Uruguay, via The Evening Standard, indicate he may only be out for three weeks after being dealt the injury at this year's World Cup in Qatar.

Now, a club expert has delivered his verdict on the likely return date for the 25-year-old.

The Latest: Wenham thrilled...

While the injury could rule the Uruguay international out for a few weeks, he is deemed unlikely to miss any more Premier League games than he was already expected to.

Speaking to Football Insider, Wenham said:

"It sounds like it will only be three or four weeks which is fantastic news. That means he will be fit for that New Year’s Day game against Aston Villa.

“Potentially a tricky game because we know Emery has had time to work with his squad and they might be a bit of an unknown quantity.

“So we will need our best players back for that one though I’m sure we won’t rush him if he isn’t ready. I don’t think he will miss much if any more football than he was going to anyway so that’s brilliant news.”

The Verdict: Big boost

The £34m-rated maestro has been absolutely essential for Spurs this season, emerging as their second-best performer in the Premier League up to this point, with an average SofaScore rating of 7.27, trailing only Harry Kane.

Hailed as 'wonderful' by former Tottenham man Graham Roberts for his performances prior to the World Cup break, the midfield general has also continued his terrific form with his national side, displaying his wonderful passing range by completing 68 balls with an 88% accuracy against South Korea, the joint-highest amount of any player on the pitch.

As such, the fact that Bentancur is only likely to miss one Premier League game, which he was already suspended for, is a big boost for Antonio Conte in his side's bid to finish inside the top four.
