Tottenham could make a move for Real Valladolid defender Ivan Fresneda, should the club miss out on signing Pedro Porro.

The Lowdown: Porro speculation

Spurs appear to be keen on strengthening their defence this month, with rumours regarding Porro picking up pace this week. Reports stated that Tottenham have made an opening bid of guaranteed money plus one player for the 23-year-old and are now 'preparing for an agreement to be reached'.

However, it seems as if the club are making contingency plans on the possibility of missing out on Porro, with Fresneda a potential target.

Sports Witness relayed an update from Tuttosport, where they made a claim regarding Spurs and Fresneda.

They say that Tottenham’s idea is to ‘dive into Fresneda’ should they fail to sign Porro, with Fresneda also of interest to north London rivals Arsenal, according to reporter Ryan Taylor.

The Verdict: Good thinking…

Spurs will know how situations in the transfer market can change extremely quickly, so having Fresneda as an alternative target to Porro could be a wise move.

Both Porro and Fresneda appear to be impressing at their respective clubs and both hold career-high Transfermarkt valuations at this moment in time.

Porro is five years older than Fresneda, so you could argue that he would offer more experience to Antonio Conte’s side and is capable of playing as a right-midfielder.

However, Fresneda appears to be a star of the future and has been described as 'superb’ by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, so he too could be a smart signing in the long run, so it will be interesting to see who may arrive in north London over the coming days.
