Tottenham Hotspur: Crook claims ‘genuine’ interest in Trossard

Tottenham Hotspur: Crook claims 'genuine' interest in Trossard - Podcasts

TalkSport’s Alex Crook has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have an interest in Brighton & Hove Albion star Leandro Trossard.

The Lowdown: Trossard extends Brighton deal

It was reported at the start of the month that the Seagulls would look to extend the Belgian’s contract until 2024 as his current deal expires this summer.

Chelsea has been linked with the player and journalist Ben Jacobs recently stated on Twitter that the Blues ‘haven’t ruled anything out’ in terms of a potential approach.

Trossard has an impressive tally of nine goal contributions in 16 Premier League appearances for Brighton and is one off his best English top-flight campaign in front of goal to date.

The Latest: Spurs hold ‘genuine’ Trossard interest

Meanwhile, speaking on TalkSport, Crook claims he has been ‘told’ that Antonio Conte’s side has ‘genuine interest’ in Trossard, and unless the 28-year-old opts to sign a longer-term deal, he could see Brighton cashing in on the player.

He stated: “I’m told the interest in Leandro Trossard is genuine. Interesting situation for Brighton, because they just triggered a year’s extension in his contract; his old deal was due to expire in the summer.

“But I think unless he agrees to a longer-term deal, inevitably, Brighton will have to cash in in the summer – and they could cash in this month should a significant offer be made.”

The Verdict: Spurs unlikely to spend big

Trossard, who is Brighton’s very own superstar, has had a tremendous season for the Seagulls and has proven to be a real goal threat based on his league stats.

However, we wonder if Spurs could be turned off by a potential high fee set by Brighton.

The most expensive transfer in their history was back in 2019 when they brought in Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon for £63m.

With this in mind, we can’t see a Daniel Levy-run Tottenham spending a fee like that in the near future, so Trossard may have to look elsewhere should he want a move away from Sussex in January or the summer.
