# Tottenham Hotspur: Nicolo Schira says Spurs have ‘opened talks’ with agent of Nikola Maksimovic

**According to an update by journalist [Nicolo Schira](https://twitter.com/NicoSchira/status/1354036304116408320), Tottenham Hotspur have ‘[opened talks](https://twitter.com/NicoSchira/status/1354036304116408320)‘ with agent Fali Ramadani over signing 6 foot 4 powerhouse Nikola Maksimovic in a late January call – coming as the 29-year-old’s contract expires in June.**

### Spurs open talks for Maksimovic

Previously, another reporter revealed Spurs’ interest in signing Maksimovic – with Gianluigi Longari recently claiming that Spurs were ‘ready’ to meet his wage demands ([Il Napoli Online via Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/tottenham-maksimovic-napoli-transfer/)).

Indeed, time is running out for Napoli to offer the centre-back an extension on his current deal which runs out in the summer, but these reports suggest he is unlikely to sign a new contract.

Now, in an update from Schira, Tottenham have apparently ‘[opened talks](https://twitter.com/NicoSchira/status/1354036304116408320)‘ to sign Maksimovic and are in contact with his agent Ramadani – with chairman Daniel Levy potentially eyeing a bargain in this late January call.

### Transfer Tavern take

The Lilywhites appear to have signing a new centre-back on their agenda judging by their past negotiations to sign Milan Skriniar ([Gianluca Di Marzio](https://gianlucadimarzio.com/it/inter-skriniar-tottenham-cifre-milenkovic)), but Maksimovic could come as a viable alternative.

Amassing a 94.8% pass accuracy in his five Serie A starts this season ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/98631/Show/Nikola-Maksimovic)), and standing at a towering height, Maksimovic appears to fit the profile of a Jose Mourinho-type defender akin to Skriniar – who has managed [92.6% pass accuracy by comparison.](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/302918/Show/Milan-Skriniar)

Inter Milan reportedly wanted around [€60 million (£52.9 million)](https://gianlucadimarzio.com/it/inter-skriniar-tottenham-cifre-milenkovic) for the Slovakian, and Maksimovic could potentially come as a much cheaper alternative if he does join in the summer as a free agent.
