# Tottenham Hotspur: Paulo Dybala move makes sense, say ESPN pundits

**Paulo Dybala could rejuvenate his career if he makes a move from Juventus to Spurs in the transfer window, according to ESPN FC pundit Craig Burley.**

Burley and ESPN colleague Stewart Robson evaluated the merits of Dybala possibly making a late transfer to Tottenham as the deadline approaches.

According to [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11675/11779011/paulo-dybala-tottenham-agree-64-4m-fee-for-juventus-forward), Spurs have agreed a fee of £64.4m to buy the Argentinian following Manchester United’s [withdrawal](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/11777655/manchester-united-to-end-interest-in-paulo-dybala-over-player-demands) from negotiations earlier in the week.

However, [BBC Sport’s David Ornstein states](https://twitter.com/bbcsport_david/status/1159401277585051649) that a potential deal for Paulo Dybala deal is off.

Asked if whether a move for Dybala would make sense, former Arsenal player Robson [said](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKi14Gbv5FM): “\[It makes\] a lot more sense than the Manchester United one, because he’s not a centre-forward, he’s someone who plays off the front and Tottenham have got a good centre-forward in Harry Kane, but Dybala would be a good fit.

“It looks as though at some point \[Christian\] Eriksen may go, so if Eriksen went, Dybala could be the link-up player, he could work with Harry Kane. It would work quite well. I can fully understand why Dybala would want to go there, because of Pochettino, and I could understand why Spurs would want to buy him.”

Burley added: “He has to resurrect his career. The chances are he is going to be a bit-part player again. If he goes to Tottenham, and he fits into that system with this squad, then it’s a great opportunity for him in his mid-20s to resurrect his career that has been flagging a bit because of game time.

“If Tottenham can pull this off, \[with\] the way the play, and as long as Pochettino stays and you’ve got the Argentinian connection, I think it makes total sense.”

[Dybala](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/paulo-dybala/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/206050/plus/0?saison=&verein=506&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) saw his goal tally take a dip last season, scoring just 10 while his previous low at Juventus was 19 in all competitions – hence Burley’s concern that his career is on the wane.

But perhaps the arrival of top scorer [Cristiano Ronaldo](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44785173) – which Burley also alluded to in his explanation – has limited the Argentinian’s ability to contribute to the team’s goal total, as the Portuguese [notched](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cristiano-ronaldo/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/8198/plus/0?saison=2018&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) 28 during his first season in Turin.

So perhaps emerging from the shadow of the five-time Ballon d’Or [winner](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cristiano-ronaldo/erfolge/spieler/8198) will allow Dybala to return to his best – with Spurs willing to give him a chance of doing so.
