# Tottenham Hotspur: New Pedro Porro talks scheduled ‘today’

**[Tottenham Hotspur](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/) are set to make a fresh move for Sporting CP defender Pedro Porro ‘today’, according to transfer insider [Fabrizio Romano](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano).**

### The Lowdown: Opening bid rejected

The [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) giants were believed to have [cooled](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11594327/Tottenham-cool-Pedro-Porro-club-not-prepared-pay-40-million-release-clause.html) their interest in the 23-year-old at the start of the month due to Sporting’s insistence on paying the full release clause, but it’s since been [reported](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11668379/Tottenham-continue-chase-Sporting-Lisbon-fullback-Pedro-Porro-main-January-target.html) that he is in fact Antonio Conte’s number one target.

Romano has [claimed](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1617478673333886976) that the Lilywhites saw their opening offer for the right-back turned down, with Sporting standing firm in their stance of only being willing to sanction a sale should they receive €45m (£39m) up front, as stated in his contract.

The player, however, is apparently personally [keen](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1717954/Tottenham-transfer-news-Pedro-Porro-Antonio-Conte-January-targets) to make the move to N17, and it sounds like Fabio Paratici isn’t ready to end his pursuit there.

### The Latest: Second time lucky?

Taking to [Twitter on Tuesday morning](https://twitter.com/fabrizioromano/status/1617725989966217216?s=46&t=xCB7BmxQ-Wm_-PaFqBG6mQ), Romano revealed that Spurs are preparing for a new round of negotiations for Porro in the hope of reaching an agreement before the end of the window.

*“Understand Tottenham and Sporting will hold new round of talks for Pedro Porro today.*

*“Tottenham are offering €37m fixed fee plus add-ons, discussing about one player to be included as part of the deal.”*

### The Verdict: Splash the cash

Porro has been [dubbed](https://twitter.com/zachlowy/status/1583935801309601792?s=46&t=KQaB3Z_5zXTYeWsSIXberA) a ‘special’ talent by [Zach Lowy](https://twitter.com/ZachLowy), and Tottenham may have to splash the cash should they not want to miss out on their primary target.

The [Nike-sponsored](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pedro-porro/profil/spieler/553875) star has racked up a mightily impressive 11 assists and three goals in [24](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pedro-porro/leistungsdaten/spieler/553875) appearances this season and currently ranks in the [99th](https://fbref.com/en/players/27d0a506/Pedro-Porro) percentile of full-backs for six different statistics, including assists and shot-creating actions.

The Don Benito native also shares the same [agent](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pedro-porro/profil/spieler/553875) as Heung-Min Son [and](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/berateruebersicht/verein/148) Richarlison, so this could potentially give Conte’s side an advantage when trying to get a deal over the line.
