# Tottenham Hotspur: Pundit suggests Philippe Coutinho would be ‘magnificent signing’ as news emerges

**Former Spurs star Michael Brown feels Tottenham target Philippe Coutinho would be a “magnificent signing” if he moves to North London this summer.**

Speaking exclusively to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/great-fit-magnificent-exclusive-pundit-in-awe-as-spurs-work-on-19m-deal-in-fee-wages/), the player-turned-pundit insisted Coutinho would be a perfect fit for Jose Mourinho’s side.

The Brazilian has spent the season on loan at Bayern Munich but [Karl-Heinz Rummenigge](https://twitter.com/cfbayern/status/1264147884762693632) has made it clear the Bundesliga club do not intend to sign him permanently.

Last month, [the outlet](https://www.footballinsider247.com/door-opens-for-tottenham-to-sign-superstar-after-huge-development-today/) reported Barcelona are looking to offload the 27-year-old in the transfer window.

[His parent club](https://www.footballinsider247.com/great-fit-magnificent-exclusive-pundit-in-awe-as-spurs-work-on-19m-deal-in-fee-wages/) are keen to get rid of the midfielder to free up space in the club and reduce their wage bill.

Spurs are considering a [loan move](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-tottenham-tell-barcelona-what-theyll-pay-for-coutinho/) for Coutinho and Daniel Levy has been told he will be available to buy at a [significantly reduced price](https://www.footballinsider247.com/i-can-see-coutinho-deal-being-done-exclusive-robinson-in-stunning-spurs-claim-after-update/).

[Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/great-fit-magnificent-exclusive-pundit-in-awe-as-spurs-work-on-19m-deal-in-fee-wages/) previously revealed they can sign the superstar for a loan fee of around £8m, as long as they cover his salary which is worth more than £200,000-a-week.

Brown told [the site](https://www.footballinsider247.com/great-fit-magnificent-exclusive-pundit-in-awe-as-spurs-work-on-19m-deal-in-fee-wages/) “It just depends on what the total is – you can dress the deal up however you want regarding finances – for example, what are the wages?

“There might be an £8million loan fee but half the wages – you can’t be fully sure what that deal might be – but would he be a Spurs-type player? I think we all know the answer to that.

“I think he would be a great fit, great excitement. It just depends on what way Mourinho wants to play.

“Would he want to play for Mourinho in the Spurs setup? I think he would. He’d like a return to the Premier League, the Premier League’s exciting, and it would be a magnificent signing.”

It is hard to argue with Brown on this one, despite the fact Coutinho has struggled to hit the [same heights](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-philippe-coutinho-transfer-race-arsenal-chelsea-paul-robinson-a4450231.html) he enjoyed with Liverpool.

After arriving at the Nou Camp from Anfield in 2018, the playmaker has made [76 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/80444) for Barca, scoring 21 goals in all competitions.

He has notably won La Liga twice, although he lost his place to [Antoine Griezmann](https://www.goal.com/en/news/tottenham-could-still-sign-coutinho-says-ex-goalkeeper/1ent3vqkp8z1i12nnlw73hh5y9) after Quique Setien took charge.

Nevertheless, the midfielder has reminded fans of his obvious class during his time with the Bavarians, bagging 8 goals and 6 assists in the Bundesliga this season, taking 2.6 shots per game, making 1.4 key passes, and completing 1.5 dribbles on average ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/80767/Show/Philippe-Coutinho)).

While he is yet to hit the same vein of form that saw him win [Liverpool’s Player of the Year](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2015/05/19/11902542/coutinho-named-liverpools-player-of-the-year-players-player) back in 2015, he would surely be an upgrade on Mourinho’s current midfield options.

Indeed, Coutinho has received a higher [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/80767/Show/Philippe-Coutinho) rating than the likes of the club’s record signing [Tanguy Ndombele](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/321389/Show/Tanguy-Ndombele), [Giovani Lo Celso](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/303908/Show/Giovani-Lo-Celso) and [Moussa Sissoko](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/29595/Show/Moussa-Sissoko) this season.

As it stands, his experience could prove vital as Spurs look to hunt for trophies next season. Moreover, he could act as a mentor to some of the younger members of the squad on-and-off the pitch, which will benefit the club in the future.
