# Tottenham Hotspur: Real Madrid reduce Gareth Bale asking price to £18.6 million amid Spurs transfer links

**According to an exclusive report courtesy of Spanish outlet [Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/real-madrid/20200913/483432877802/bale-real-madrid-manchester-united.html), Real Madrid have reduced Gareth Bale’s asking price to £18.6 million amid [transfer rumours](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7944467/Tottenham-hold-talks-shock-Gareth-Bale-Real-Madrid.html) of a possible return to Tottenham – potentially gifting chairman Daniel Levy an opportunity to snap up the Welsh cult hero.**

Bale, who has been out-of-favour at the Bernabeu over the last year after a fall-out with manager Zinedine Zindane, prompting the infamous ‘[Wales, Golf, Madrid](https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2019/nov/20/gareth-bale-and-that-wales-golf-madrid-flag-real-are-not-amused)‘ moment whilst on international duty, is reportedly eager to find a new club and the likes of[Man United](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.skysports.com/amp/football/news/11667/12071867/gareth-bale-manchester-united-could-consider-loan-for-real-madrid-star-if-jadon-sancho-move-fails) have also been linked along with Spurs.

There has been talk of Madrid subsidising [50% of Bale’s head-turning £600,000-per-week salary](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/09/09/exclusive-real-madrid-willing-pay-half-gareth-bales-wages-facilitate/) after tax recently in order to facilitate a move away, but according to Mundo Deportivo, Real have now taken an even bigger step in trying to offload the attacker by reducing his valuation to a meagre £18.6m.

After a hugely successful spell for the Galacticos, including four Champions League title wins and a plethora of other honours ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gareth-bale/erfolge/spieler/39381)), Bale could seemingly return to the Premier League after this latest update if English clubs were to come in with a suitable offer.

One of those sides, Bale’s former outfit Spurs, are also in with a shout of landing the [83-cap international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gareth-bale/nationalmannschaft/spieler/39381) – and judging by his past praise from fan favourite ex-boss Mauricio Pochettino, he could still be worth the punt at 31-years-old.

Indeed, the Argentine, knowing his world class pedigree all the way back in 2013, heralded the player as ‘amazing’ and even compared him to footballing superstar Lionel Messi ([Goal](https://www.goal.com/en-sg/news/3877/england/2013/05/04/3953058/top-10-in-the-world-bale-close-to-messi-observes-pochettino)).

Whether or not Levy takes this opportunity remains to be seen, but the price tag drop could only be good news from a Tottenham perspective.
