# Tottenham Hotspur: Report makes Milan Skriniar claim

**As per a fresh report from Italy and yet another story linking Milan Skriniar to Tottenham Hotspur, a new claim has lifted the lid on how close he actually was to leaving Inter over the summer window.**

### The Lowdown: Spurs in Skriniar hunt…

Tottenham’s tie to the Nerazzurri defender can be traced as far back as the summer of 2020, with [Alasdair Gold](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/inside-tottenham-transfer-window-levy-19058497) revealing how Spurs chief Steve Hitchen flew to Italy in an attempt to negotiate a move.

The Slovakia international has enjoyed a fine season in Serie A since that failed switch to Tottenham and a report has now come out to explain how Spurs expected him to join in the most recent window.

### The Latest: Report makes Skriniar to Spurs claim…

According to FCInternews.it, as shared by [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/suitcase-in-hand-tottenham-waited-with-open-arms-for-player-expected-to-leave-club-in-summer/), there were those who ‘saw him \[Skriniar\] ready with a suitcase in hand’ over the summer window – with it looking likely he would leave in the source’s eyes.

As such, it is explained that both Tottenham and Paris-Saint Germain were ‘waiting with open arms’ for the 26-year-old.

However, despite Spurs seemingly believing he could join up with Nuno Espirito Santo, Skriniar opted to refuse Tottenham and PSG’s advances to remain in Serie A.

### The Verdict: What could have been?

Lauded as ‘[incredible](https://sempreinter.com/2021/03/30/milan-skriniars-ex-teammate-adam-zilak-he-started-as-a-striker-now-an-incredible-defender-for-inter/)‘ by ex-teammate Adam Zilak, the towering defender would have been a colossal addition for Spurs – presumably in place of Cristian Romero.

The [£54 million-valued star](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/milan-skriniar/profil/spieler/204069) impressed for Inter yet again over 2020/2021, averaging a cool [92.2% pass accuracy](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/302918/History/Milan-Skriniar) out from the back and displaying a mature head – arguably what Spurs need.

Alas, the addition of Romero, who won the [Serie A MVP award last year](https://www.atalanta.it/en/news/mvp-2020-2021-romero-best-defender/) for best defender, is a sound alternative to Skriniar.
