# Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs fans discuss Lille star as transfer news emerges

**According to [Tuttosport](https://www.tuttosport.com/), Jose Mourinho has identified Mike Maignan as Tottenham’s top target, via [@thespursweb](https://twitter.com/thespursweb/status/1268166519525199872).**

Spurs are keen to sign Maignan as an eventual replacement for Hugo Lloris. Mourinho plans to make him a second-choice to his compatriot, who in turn would be gradually phased out and replaced by Maignan in the end.

The Lilywhites have been linked to the Frenchman for a number of months.

Earlier this year, [The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/11369093/man-utd-maignan-tottenham-mourinho/) claimed the Lille keeper has attracted admirers across the Premier League, including Mourinho’s old club Manchester United.

[\[freshpress-poll id=”302050″\]](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/[freshpress-poll%20id=%22302050%22])

After arriving at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy from [Paris Saint-Germain](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mike-maignan/profil/spieler/182906), the 24-year-old has emerged as one of Europe’s [brightest talents](https://thefootballfaithful.com/lille-keeper-maignan-priority-mourinho/), and he has played 28 games in Ligue 1 for Christopher Galtier’s side, conceding 1 goal per game, keeping 12 clean sheets, and making 2.1 saves on average ([SofaScore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/mike-maignan/191210)).

Meanwhile, his compatriot has arguably [struggled for consistency](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/11369093/man-utd-maignan-tottenham-mourinho/) this season, as he has only kept 2 clean sheets in the [Premier League](https://www.sofascore.com/player/hugo-lloris/9048) at the time of writing. However, Lloris has still earned himself a higher [SofaScore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/hugo-lloris/9048) rating than the [young goalkeeper](https://www.sofascore.com/player/mike-maignan/191210).

The uncapped Frenchman is valued at £15.75m via [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mike-maignan/profil/spieler/182906), and it is unlikely Mourinho will splash the cash in the summer, as he will have to juggle a squad overhaul with [limited resources](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/11720841/jose-mourinho-spurs-transfer-budget-slashed/).

Understandably, lots of Spurs fans discussed Maignan’s transfer link on social media, with one tweeting “what a joke,” and another adding it is “pointless” given the [restricted budget](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/11720841/jose-mourinho-spurs-transfer-budget-slashed/) available. Meanwhile, others were quite keen on the idea of signing the shot stopper.

Have a read through the mixed reactions so far…

> We are not signing him man. We’re sticking to Lloris this season.

> Literally no chance whatsoever of happening. We have very limited funds, you think we are going to use them on a backup keeper..? Pointless even posting it

> Lloris shouldn’t be ‘gradually phased’ out, he should be binned ASAP if this club has ambition.
