# Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs handed boost after West Brom confirm Nathan Ferguson will leave

**West Brom have confirmed Nathan Ferguson will leave the Championship leaders this summer, amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur.**

Ferguson, who is out of contract at the end of [the month](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/nathan-ferguson-tottenham-crystal-palace-18446772), has worked his way into Slaven Bilic’s side this season. However, sporting director Luke Dowling revealed the teenager will be leaving when his contract expires via [the club’s official website](https://www.wba.co.uk/news/2020/june/albion-announce-retained-list/).

[He said](https://www.wba.co.uk/news/2020/june/albion-announce-retained-list/) “we have made what can only be considered a very attractive offer to Nathan but he intends to pursue his career elsewhere. It’s a disappointment for everyone here but it is the player’s prerogative.”

The 19-year-old, who turns 20 in October, can play as a left-back or right-back, even though he started the season as a centre-half.

Crystal Palace came close to signing Ferguson in [January](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/nathan-ferguson-tottenham-crystal-palace-18446772) until a knee injury collapsed the £11m deal.

Although Palace are still [the front-runners](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/nathan-ferguson-tottenham-crystal-palace-18446772) to sign the defender in the summer, Tottenham are now in the frame as well. If the Eagles slip up again, Spurs will be in a prime position to take advantage of the situation.

As Champions League finalists last year, a move to north London is almost certainly more attractive.

Even though [Daniel Levy](https://theathletic.com/1849915/2020/06/04/tottenham-hotspur-loan-government-cashflow-coronavirus/) has had to borrow a huge sum of money from the Bank of England, Spurs will still be able to [outbid](https://www.footballinsider247.com/tottenham-ready-launch-fresh-move-for-ferguson/) Palace in any event.

[Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/tottenham-ready-launch-fresh-move-for-ferguson/) reports Ferguson and West Brom have a strained relationship which may work in Levy’s favour. Indeed, the chairman hopped on a plane to Croatia to convince Luka Modric to move to White Hart Lane (via [The Independent](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/european/tottenham-latest-news-luka-modric-real-madrid-champions-league-team-news-a8002696.html)).

The Lilywhites arguably haven’t filled the right-back position properly ever since Kyle Walker left for [Manchester City](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/tottenham-hotspur-nowrich-city-max-aarons-contact-report).

Although the Albion academy graduate hasn’t reached the same level as his compatriot so far, he is [widely admired](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/nathan-ferguson-tottenham-crystal-palace-18446772) after his performances for the Baggies this season.

As he will only cost [£4m](https://www.footballinsider247.com/tottenham-ready-launch-fresh-move-for-ferguson/) in compensation, Ferguson is surely a risk worth taking in a volatile market.
