# Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs in ‘constant’ contact with Southampton as they pursue Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

**Tottenham Hotspur are continuing to heavily pursue a deal for Southampton star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer.**

The Lilywhites are looking to steal a march on Everton as they prepare to launch an official bid for the former Saints captain.

According to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-tottenham-calling-every-day-as-bid-to-sign-pl-star-intensifies/), Tottenham have been in constant contact with Southampton as they pursue Hojbjerg.

A source close to the situation told [the outlet](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-tottenham-calling-every-day-as-bid-to-sign-pl-star-intensifies/) that Spurs have been calling his representatives “every day” to convince him to switch the South Coast for north London.

[Jose Mourinho](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/jul/16/spurs-and-southampton-in-talks-over-hojbjerg-swap-deal-with-walker-peters) has identified Hojbjerg as the holding midfielder he needs to revamp Spurs’ midfield.

The Dane has played 32 games in [the Premier League](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/101859/Show/Pierre-Emile-H%C3%B8jbjerg) this season, supplying one assist, taking 1.4 shots, winning 2.5 tackles and completing 1.5 clearances per game on average (via [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/101859/Show/Pierre-Emile-H%C3%B8jbjerg)).

[Tottenham](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-tottenham-calling-every-day-as-bid-to-sign-pl-star-intensifies/) have stepped up their attempts to seal the deal as their battle with Everton intensifies.

[\[freshpress-poll id=”309987″\]](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/[freshpress-poll%20id=%22309987%22])

[Recent reports](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-transfer-rumours/tottenham-pierre-emile-hojbjerg-swap-deal-negotiations-southampton-walker-peters/) have suggested that Spurs are confident of completing a deal, although they are yet to submit a formal bid for the ex-Bayern Munich ace.

Ralph Hasenhuttl stripped the 24-year-old of the captain’s armband after he refused to sign a new deal and was left out of [the squad](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pierre-emile-hojbjerg/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/167799/verein/180) altogether, before playing the whole game against Brighton at [full-back](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pierre-emile-hojbjerg/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/167799/verein/180).

While [the Toffees](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-tottenham-calling-every-day-as-bid-to-sign-pl-star-intensifies/) have gone for a heavy-handed approach, [Spurs](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-tottenham-calling-every-day-as-bid-to-sign-pl-star-intensifies/) have been feverishly working behind the scenes to try to tempt him to move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer.

Southampton had initially slapped a £25m asking price on his head in [January](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-tottenham-calling-every-day-as-bid-to-sign-pl-star-intensifies/), but £20m should be more than enough to seal the deal.

Tottenham should be able to meet their valuation comfortably, as Daniel Levy spent £53.8m on [Tanguy Ndombele](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48841318) last year.

However, questions could be raised about the club record signing’s [future](https://theathletic.com/1891033/) at Spurs if Hojbjerg joins the club in the summer.
