# Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs targeting Real Betis defender as replacement for Jan Vertonghen

**Tottenham are interested in signing Real Betis star Zouhair Feddal this summer.**

According to [Don Balon](https://www.donbalon.com/futbol/premier-league/espectacular-cambio-cromos-jose-mourinho-betis) (as relayed by [@thespursweb](https://twitter.com/thespursweb/status/1268082869269860355)), Jose Mourinho has identified Feddal as a replacement for Jan Vertonghen.

Vertonghen is [reportedly considering](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-transfer-rumours/tottenham-hotspur-fans-react-to-jan-vertonghens-link-to-real-betis/) an offer from Betis and this could pave the way for Feddal to move in the other direction.

Indeed, the 33-year-old is likely to leave on a free transfer, and Mourinho is looking for a cheaper alternative.

The Portuguese knows he will have to cope with a [limited budget](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/11720841/jose-mourinho-spurs-transfer-budget-slashed/) in the upcoming window and is eyeing a move for the Moroccan.

Although the 30-year-old is not a regular starter for [Rubi’s side](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/rubi/eingesetzteSpieler/trainer/24307/plus/0?saison_id=2019&verein_id=&liga=&wettbewerb_id=), he has still played 11 games in La Liga this season, picking up an assist, making 1.3 tackles per game, averaging 1.5 interceptions, and completing a staggering 4.7 clearances on average ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/106597/Show/Zouhair-Feddal)).

[\[freshpress-poll id=”301992″\]](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/[freshpress-poll%20id=%22301992%22])

He has played for a number of European clubs, such as Alaves, Levante, Parma and US Palermo so far.

The Morocco international has won 14 caps for his country and is currently valued at a mere £3.6m via [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/zouhair-feddal/profil/spieler/129386). Moreover, he could be used in negotiations between the two sides for his Belgian counterpart.

However, he has received a low [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/106597/Show/Zouhair-Feddal) rating, which is below [Vertonghen’s](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/21778/Show/Jan-Vertonghen) statistical rating at the time of writing.

Admittedly, it is currently unclear if Mourinho sees him as a potential backup for the likes of Davinson Sanchez, Japhet Tanganga and Eric Dier.

While there is no doubt [the relationship](https://www.donbalon.com/futbol/premier-league/espectacular-cambio-cromos-jose-mourinho-betis) between Betis and Spurs may prove useful in the future, he clearly needs to make improvements to his overall game, including [his disciplinary issues](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/106597/Show/Zouhair-Feddal), if he is to be of use to Tottenham.
