# Tottenham: Villarreal make official offer for Lo Celso

**[Tottenham Hotspur](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/) have received Villarreal’s first official offer for midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, according to Spanish outlet Marca (via The Spurs Web).**

### **The Lowdown: Villarreal loan spell**

The 26-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan with the La Liga outfit, making [15 league appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/giovani-lo-celso/leistungsdaten/spieler/348795/plus/0?saison=2021) under Unai Emery.

The Argentina international even played a big part in the side’s run in the Champions League, in which the Spanish club reached the [semi-finals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/giovani-lo-celso/leistungsdaten/spieler/348795/plus/0?saison=2021) before crashing out to Liverpool.

Lo Celso was [allowed to leave Spurs](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/tottenham-open-to-selling-dele-and-lo-celso-after-omitting/blt1b946472d8f12b9a) in January after manager Antonio Conte decided that he would not be included in his plans for the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign.

### **The Latest: Villarreal make bid**

After heavy speculation involving Lo Celso’s future at the North London club left the player’s situation unclear, some definitive news involving a move away from Tottenham has now emerged.

As per Spanish outlet [Marca](https://www.marca.com/futbol/villarreal/2022/08/01/62e7f6c546163f5b288b4590.html) (via [The Spurs Web](https://twitter.com/thespursweb/status/1554176676984246274)), Villarreal have finally now submitted their first official offer for Lo Celso.

It is understood that the proposed offer consists of a loan deal with a mandatory purchase option of around £12.5m.

### **The Verdict: Good move for him**

Following the summer arrival of [Yves Bissouma](https://www.skysports.com/transfer/news/12691/12635707/yves-bissouma-brighton-midfielder-signs-for-tottenham-on-four-year-deal) from Brighton, the Argentine has fallen even further down Conte’s pecking order at Hotspur Way.

Therefore, if the 26-year-old wants to maintain his career playing at the top level, a permanent move to a dominant European side like Villarreal would allow him to do this for years to come, whereas this would be an unlikely prospect in a Lilywhites shirt.

Dubbed [‘outstanding’](https://twitter.com/dermotmcorrigan/status/1511792780422619146) for his Champions League quarter-finals performance against Bayern Munich last season, a move away from Tottenham appears to be the best option for Lo Celso’s career.
