# Tottenham Hotspur: Troy Deeney hints at ‘love’ for Spurs move and reveals talks with Mourinho

**Speaking exclusively to [talkSPORT](https://talksport.com/football/777060/troy-deeney-watford-tottenham-links-jose-mourinho/), Watford striker Troy Deeney has opened up over his links to Spurs in the summer window and hinted that he would ‘[love](https://talksport.com/football/777060/troy-deeney-watford-tottenham-links-jose-mourinho/)‘ a move to north London – with the Tottenham target also revealing he ‘[saw Jose](https://talksport.com/football/777060/troy-deeney-watford-tottenham-links-jose-mourinho/)‘.**

Deeney was named as one of the strikers who [Spurs had their eye on](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-transfer-rumours/tottenham-hotspur-watford-willing-to-sell-striker-troy-deeney-amid-spurs-interest/) before Daniel Levy eventually secured a loan-to-buy move for Benfica star Carlos Vinicius.

### Deeney breakdown

The 32-year-old, speaking candidly to [talkSPORT](https://talksport.com/football/777060/troy-deeney-watford-tottenham-links-jose-mourinho/), has now revealed that there was ‘a lot of talks’ over a potential move – with some materialising and others never really getting off the ground.

Tottenham were on the lookout for a back-up striker to Harry Kane, with Deeney being one of the alleged targets, and judging by recent reports, it is feasible that Spurs may not be ruling out a move just yet, given their alleged interest in a [triple swoop next summer.](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/tottenham-transfers-camavinga-brozovic-weghorst-19133453)

The Englishman arguably fits the Mourinho mould of a ‘powerful’ and ‘aggressive’ centre-forward who can hassle defenders, and the [£100,000-per-week](https://www.wdsport.co.uk/2016/09/troy-deeney-on-100000-a-week-report-the-sunday-times/) frontman has been described as a would-be ‘[fantastic signing](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-west-brom-tipped-to-sign-fantastic-striker-after-talks/)‘.

Deeney has now also dropped a hint that he would [‘love](https://talksport.com/football/777060/troy-deeney-watford-tottenham-links-jose-mourinho/)‘ to play for Spurs, describing the club’s stadium and recent ambition as ‘[ridiculous](https://talksport.com/football/777060/troy-deeney-watford-tottenham-links-jose-mourinho/)‘ in an interview with Laura Woods.

### Transfer Tavern take

Valued at just [£4.5 million by Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/troy-deeney/profil/spieler/65477), along with the fact he is homegrown, Levy appears to have very little to lose regarding a potential January swoop for Deeney as a back-up.

Whether or not Spurs move again for their alleged target in January remains to be seen, but he could still be a fairly noteworthy coup if they do.
