# Tottenham Hotspur: Watford ‘willing’ to sell striker Troy Deeney amid Spurs interest

**According to a report from [the Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8715805/Troy-Deeney-set-leave-Watford-tries-remain-Premier-League.html), Watford are ‘willing’ to let Tottenham Hotspur target Troy Deeney leave this summer if they receive any credible offers – with Daniel Levy and co now gifted a chance to land the forward who was once described as England’s ‘[best](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/gracia-backs-deeney-as-englands-best-striker/q1gnls0vtsfh1b7w7mfq4bp0c)‘.**

Deeney, who suffered relegation to the Championship with his club last season, could be sold off to raise funds and a move back to the big time may well prove ‘[attractive](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8715805/Troy-Deeney-set-leave-Watford-tries-remain-Premier-League.html)‘ to the striker as Spurs hunt for back-up forwards.

Sky Sports journalist [Fabrizio Romano](https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/summer-transfer-window-ft-fabrizio-romano/id1281903552?i=1000489871646) recently confirmed that a striker is nearing the top of Levy’s priority list, especially after star man Harry Kane missed a large portion of last season with a hamstring injury.

The likes of Callum Wilson, Chris Wood, Ollie Watkins and Darwin Nunez [were linked with a move](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-transfer-rumours/tottenham-hotspur-alasdair-gold-confirms-new-spurs-striker-on-the-agenda/) to Spurs – as well as Deeney – but the Hornets hero could be a stable alternative.

Homegrown and with a market value of around [£5.85 million](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/troy-deeney/profil/spieler/65477) (Watford could ask for more), the [£100,000-per-week](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-united-blow-entire-summer-18835142) veteran has also reached goalscoring double figures in three out of his last five Premier League seasons ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/25832/History/Troy-Deeney)).

Lauded as a ‘[powerful](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/714010/Watford-Walter-Mazzarri-Troy-Deeney-England-call-up-Sam-Allardyce)‘ centre-forward option by ex-manager Walter Mazzarri, fellow ex-Hornets gaffer Javi Gracia also made no secret of Deeney’s quality – describing him as England’s ‘[best](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/gracia-backs-deeney-as-englands-best-striker/q1gnls0vtsfh1b7w7mfq4bp0c)‘ striker back in 2019.

Of course, this was over a year ago and still debatable now, but his experience in the top flight and proven scoring return could mark him out as an unlikely option for Levy to pursue.
