# Tottenham: Insider thrilled after Oblak transfer update

**John Wenham, a club [‘insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/expert-backs-tottenham-to-pull-off-huge-jan-oblak-signing-amid-107m-update/)‘ who breaks news on his [Lilywhites Rose accounts](https://twitter.com/Lilywhite_Rose/status/1439119178980528128), has been left thrilled by a [Tottenham Hotspur](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/) update involving Jan Oblak.**

### The Lowdown: Spurs identify new top target…

According to reports over the last few weeks, Spurs have now identified the Atletico Madrid goalkeeper as a new ‘primary target’ to succeed current number one Hugo Lloris.

Indeed, [The Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-transfer-news-oblak-lloris-b1028731.html?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1664360605) state sporting director Fabio Paratici and co have even ‘sounded out’ Oblak over a possible move in 2023.

Lilywhites head coach Antonio Conte has apparently [spoken to Paratici](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-transfer-news-oblak-lloris-b1028731.html?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1664360605) about a long term succession plan for Lloris and the Slovenian international appears to fit their bill.

### The Latest: Wenham thrilled…

Now, speaking to [Football Insider,](https://www.footballinsider247.com/expert-backs-tottenham-to-pull-off-huge-jan-oblak-signing-amid-107m-update/) Wenham has given his take on the development – being left thrilled by this news.

He explained:

*“It’s very interesting, it might be that Oblak wants to play in the Premier League before he retires.*

*“He is only 29 so he has six or seven seasons left in him. He would be, there aren’t many players I would say this about, an upgrade on Hugo Lloris.*

*“He is a fantastic goalkeeper. Also, he has demonstrated his ability in the Champions League and at the international level.*

*“For his country, he challenges with Handanovic at Inter Milan. That country has produced very good goalkeepers.*

*“Oblak is always on top of his game and it would be a huge statement of intent if we could sign him next summer.*

*“I would be very much up for that.”*

### The Verdict: Good move…

Tottenham’s long-serving number one, regrettably, won’t be around forever and Oblak serves as a quality like-for-like heir to the Frenchman.

Atletico boss Diego Simeone called the 29-year-old one of [world football’s best goalkeepers in 2017](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/hes-one-best-simeone-showers-oblak-praise) and he has been a [mainstay](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/63/Archive/Spain-Atletico-Madrid?stageId=19895) in their side ever since, playing [more minutes than any of his teammates](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/63/Archive/Spain-Atletico-Madrid?stageId=19895) in La Liga last season.

An ever-reliable, Oblak is exactly the sort of figurehead Paratici should be chasing ahead of next summer.
