# Tottenham: Spurs join the race for Ivan Fresneda

**[Tottenham Hotspur](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/) have now joined the race to sign Real Valladolid right-back Ivan Fresneda, according to a new report.**

### The Lowdown: Conte eyeing right-wing back

It is no secret that [Antonio Conte](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/antonio-conte/) wants to bolster the right-wing back area during the January transfer window, with Emerson Royal now [available](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/tottenham-emerson-royal-transfer-rumours/amp/) to leave the club, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The likes of Pedro Porro and Denzel Dumfries have been linked with a move this window, with the former [said](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1611349055472369664) to desire the move, according to Fabrizio Romano, while football.london [detail](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/news/tottenham-news-pedro-porro-spurs-25918556) that strengthening the position is a priority this month.

### The Latest: Fresneda considered

According to a [report](https://www.90min.com/posts/newcastle-la-liga-wonderkid-garang-kuol-loan-exit) from 90min, Tottenham have watched Fresneda play, and are considering making an approach, however there is a lot of competition for his signature.

It is claimed that Newcastle United have held talks over a potential deal, while Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are also listed as potential suitors, so Spurs may have to hijack the move if they set their sights on the 18-year-old.

### The Verdict: Get it done?

There is high praise indeed for the youngster from football scout Jacek Kulig, who labelled him as being ‘superb’ following a performance against Real Madrid, while he also [claimed](https://twitter.com/FTalentScout/status/1608953005981978624?s=20&t=WSSsXiZYFVP6zHZpEgEhUg) that he is ‘one of the most talented teenage right-backs in Europe’.

Given that the defender has only just broke into the Valladolid first team, he may be available for a cheaper price than the [£40m](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11594327/Tottenham-cool-Pedro-Porro-club-not-prepared-pay-40-million-release-clause.html) that has been touted for Porro, and he has already displayed his remarkable defensive capabilities during his short stint in the team.

Over the past year, the starlet has averaged a remarkable [3.71](https://fbref.com/en/players/29d0f2ac/Ivan-Fresneda) tackles per 90, in the 99th percentile, while he has also weighed in with 1.61 interceptions per 90 in the same timeframe, both figures far [higher](https://fbref.com/en/players/df8b52a5/Emerson) than what has been offered up by Emerson Royal, highlighting that Fresneda could make an immediate improvement to the team, rather than only being a long-term prospect.
