# Tottenham: Jonathan David could be a ‘great solution’, says transfer expert

**[Tottenham Hotspur](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/) could target Lille striker Jonathan David after contacts were established last year, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.**

### The Lowdown: Striker links

Kane is yet to sign a new deal to extend his stay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium past [June 2024](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harry-kane/profil/spieler/132098), leading to potential replacements being discussed for the talisman.

One such name is Lille forward David, who has previously been touted for a move to Premier League clubs such as Tottenham, Arsenal and Everton, by journalist Dean Jones in his [GIVEMESPORT](https://www.givemesport.com/88078781-man-utd-world-cup-jonathan-david-milinkovic-savic-gvardiol-timber-vega) column.

### The Latest: Romano’s a big fan

As per [CaughtOffside](https://www.caughtoffside.com/2022/12/05/jonathan-david-tottenham-transfer-exclusive-from-fabrizio-romano/), Romano commented on the potential [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) switch for the Canada international, confirming there was contact last summer and praising the young striker:

*“Jonathan David has made it clear he wants to play in the Premier League, so where could the Lille striker end up?”*

*“At the moment there are no conversations or contacts between Spurs and Lille or Jonathan David’s agents.*

*“Tottenham were informed on David one year ago but it’s still quiet now. I think he’d be great solution for many clubs, including Tottenham; he’s a very good striker.”*

### The Verdict: Kane replacement?

In truth, Spurs manager Antonio Conte is unlikely to find any player who could match the goal tally or overall influence of the England captain, but the 22-year-old would go some way to doing so, indicated by his immense form in Ligue 1 over the past few seasons.

The speedster, dubbed a ‘[clinical finisher](https://twitter.com/FTalentScout/status/1266094641855807489?s=20&t=ew85t5iX876JYM9767TQmA)‘ by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, notched 15 goals in 38 league games last season, a figure he looks set to improve upon further if he continues his form during this campaign, as he has already scored [nine](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jonathan-david/leistungsdaten/spieler/533738) in 15.

Of course, the Spurs hierarchy will be keen to do whatever possible to tie Kane down on a new long-term deal, but if they are unable to do so, David would be a very astute signing, capable of challenging the red-hot Richarlison for that leading role in the years to come.
