# Tottenham: Kenya fans slate Victor Wanyama after dismal international display

**Tottenham’s forgotten man, Victor Wanyama, has come in for some criticism following a poor performance for Kenya last night.**

The former Southampton midfielder played 90 minutes for his nation, who drew 1-1 with Togo in an African Cup of Nations qualifier.

Wanyama has played just 24 minutes in all competitions for Tottenham this season and hasn’t even been included in the north London club’s matchday squad for their previous five league games (via [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/victor-wanyama/leistungsdaten/spieler/77760)).

The 28-year-old finds himself behind Harry Winks, Eric Dier, Moussa Sissoko and even 19-year-old Oliver Skipp in the pecking order for a spot in Tottenham’s midfield, with his career in north London seemingly coming to its end.

He almost left the club in the summer to join Belgian outfit [Club Brugge](https://talksport.com/football/592739/victor-wanyama-tottenham-hotspur-news-mauricio-pochettino-transfers-club-brugge/), though a move did not materialise upon the closure of the summer transfer window and he remained put. Celtic are now thought to be [exploring the possibility](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/nov/19/football-rumours-julian-nagelsmann-to-replace-pochettino-at-spurs?CMP=share_btn_tw) of taking their former midfielder back on loan in January.

It appears that Wanyama’s lack of action at club level has massively affected his international form, with last night’s abysmal display summing up a miserable period for the midfielder.

Here’s how some Kenya fans reacted to his performance on Twitter..

> Nowadays, Wanyama rarely plays at Tottenham. But just because he is on the payroll at this English club, he will play for Kenya regardless of his form and match fitness. That’s exactly why our football will always stagnate. [#HarambeeStars](https://twitter.com/hashtag/HarambeeStars?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

> With all due respect Wanyama has done great for Kenya. However his time has come because he cannot handle the pace of the ma youth. He was sluggish and evidently tired. We need his experience but not at the expense of our midfield.
