# Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs ‘determined’ to keep Tanguy Ndombele despite interest from Barca and Inter Milan

**Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has become embroiled in an inflammable relationship with Tanguy Ndombele that has resembled something straight out of a soap opera.**

The [ever-demanding](https://theathletic.com/1891033/) manager and the [maverick midfielder](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tanguy-ndombele-tottenham-transfer-news-fc-barcelona-inter-milan-a4513241.html?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1596182815) have never seen eye-to-eye, and tensions have spilled out since the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league/tottenham/tottenham-hotspur-tanguy-ndombele-continues-to-divide-opinion-at-spurs-and-there-is-only-one-way-out/) restart in June.

Ndombele has struggled to settle down under [Mourinho](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-transfer-rumours/tottenham-hotspur-inter-set-to-offer-spurs-swap-deal-including-marcelo-brozovic-for-tanguy-ndombele/) and relations between the Spurs duo have become increasingly strained, amid interest from [Barcelona and Inter Milan](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tanguy-ndombele-tottenham-transfer-news-fc-barcelona-inter-milan-a4513241.html?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1596182815) in the 23-year-old.

Inter are ready to offer the Frenchman a lifeline while Barca are trying to sort out a swap deal, despite the fact that Daniel Levy has already rebuffed their attempts to sign him so far. Contrary to some [reports](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/jul/30/tottenham-open-talks-with-inter-over-tanguy-ndombele-sale), Spurs have not held talks with Inter to sell Ndombele for a reduced fee.

According to the [Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tanguy-ndombele-tottenham-transfer-news-fc-barcelona-inter-milan-a4513241.html?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1596182815)‘s Dan Kilpatrick, Levy will reportedly reject offers for the club’s [record signing](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/jul/02/tanguy-ndombele-tottenham-medical-lyon-roma-toby-alderweireld) this summer. He has also ruled out using the [six-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tanguy-ndombele/profil/spieler/450936) French international as part of negotiations for player exchanges.

[The Lilywhites](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tanguy-ndombele-tottenham-transfer-news-fc-barcelona-inter-milan-a4513241.html?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1596182815) insist that the defensive midfielder, who they signed from Lyon for [£55m](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/jul/02/tanguy-ndombele-tottenham-medical-lyon-roma-toby-alderweireld) last year, needs time to adapt in the Premier League.

Levy is determined to give [Ndombele](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tanguy-ndombele-tottenham-transfer-news-fc-barcelona-inter-milan-a4513241.html?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1596182815) another chance to become a success in north London, although it remains to be seen if Mourinho will feel the same way.

The Spurs manager has made it clear that he is [concerned](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league/tottenham/tottenham-hotspur-tanguy-ndombele-continues-to-divide-opinion-at-spurs-and-there-is-only-one-way-out/) by his poor performances in training, which explains why he was an [unused substitute](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tanguy-ndombele/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/450936/wettbewerb/GB1/saison/2019) for four out of a possible six league games before being dropped from the squad entirely for the final three fixtures.

At first, it seemed as though [one of them](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league/tottenham/tottenham-hotspur-tanguy-ndombele-continues-to-divide-opinion-at-spurs-and-there-is-only-one-way-out/) would have to leave the club in order to resolve the situation, but Mourinho may have already changed his mind. The Portuguese recently claimed that the 23-year-old could still be a success at Spurs and cited [Luka Modric’s](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league/tottenham/profit-players-tottenham-hotspurs-16-5m-move-for-luka-modric-was-a-stroke-of-genius/) early struggles at [Real Madrid](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tanguy-ndombele-tottenham-transfer-news-fc-barcelona-inter-milan-a4513241.html?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1596182815) as an example.
