# Tottenham: Source shares Stefan de Vrij links

**Tottenham have been linked with a January move for Inter defender Stefan de Vrij, [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-conte-tells-tottenham-to-sign-de-vrij-and-believes-january-deal-can-be-done/) report.**

### The Lowdown: Summer talks

Spurs added to their defensive ranks this summer by bringing in [Cristian Romero and Emerson Royal](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/transfers/verein/148).

However, the duo are yet to resolve the club’s defensive issues, with Tottenham shipping [16](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) goals in their first [10](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) Premier League games – the same number as 18th place [Burnley](https://www.premierleague.com/tables).

Spurs were in [talks](https://madaboutepl.net/2021/07/tottenham-hotspur-stefan-de-vrij-transfer-news/) with Inter over the summer regarding a move for De Vrij, but as we know, a move never materialised.

And it now seems as if Antonio Conte is eyeing a reunion with the [Netherlands international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/stefan-de-vrij/nationalmannschaft/spieler/111196/verein_id/3379), who likes to chip in with goals from set pieces – he has netted [24](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/stefan-de-vrij/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/111196) times during his club career.

The manager was [officially](https://twitter.com/SpursOfficial/status/1455505378939228162) appointed on Tuesday and is [rumoured](https://www.sportmediaset.mediaset.it/mercato/calcioestero/mercato-conte-sulla-panchina-del-tottenham-fa-tremare-la-serie-a_40231260-202102k.shtml) to be eyeing up transfer targets already.

### The Latest: Source shares fresh links

[Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-conte-tells-tottenham-to-sign-de-vrij-and-believes-january-deal-can-be-done/) shared a story on Tuesday morning about a potential move for the 29-year-old after being informed by a Spurs source.

The site suggested that the centre-back is a top January priority following discussions with Fabio Paratici.

The managing director is confident a winter window transfer can now be finalised following the arrival of Conte.

### The Verdict: No brainer?

De Vrij, labelled as a [‘monster’](https://football-italia.net/mauricio-de-vrij-is-a-monster/) by former Lazio teammate Mauricio, was a [regular](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/stefan-de-vrij/leistungsdaten/spieler/111196/plus/0?saison=2020) under Conte for Inter Milan during their 2020/21 title-winning season, so bringing him to north London appears to be a no brainer.

Conte of course knows what he’ll get from the centre-back who has [Champions League, Europa League](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/stefan-de-vrij/detaillierteleistungsdaten/spieler/111196) and [international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/stefan-de-vrij/nationalmannschaft/spieler/111196/verein_id/3379) experience.

[De Vrij](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/75/Show/Italy-Inter) has also outperformed every [Tottenham](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/30/Show/England-Tottenham) centre-back this season, as per [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/), so you’d expect he’d be key in Conte’s defence, should he follow the Italian to London, perhaps
