# Tottenham: Gary Lineker calls for Jurgen Klinsmann as Spurs manager

**Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Gary Lineker has urged Daniel Levy to hire Jurgen Klinsmann as the club’s new manager this summer.**

### **The Lowdown: Spurs’ search continues**

Despite being without a manager since April 19th after sacking Jose Mourinho ([BBC](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/56799400)), Tottenham remain without a permanent boss 10 weeks on.

They have already spoken to a number of candidates, including Paulo Fonseca ([The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/paulo-fonseca-tottenham-deal-falls-24342102)), Antonio Conte ([football.london](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/news/antonio-conte-tottenham-fans-manager-20747919)) and [Gennaro Gattuso](https://twitter.com/republic/status/1405853996376641536), but they seem unable to settle on the right man.

### **The Latest: Lineker makes Klinsmann suggestion**

Lineker has now suggested that [Nuno Espirito Santo is the latest man to turn down the job](https://twitter.com/GaryLineker/status/1409501069223268356), and he also suggested Klinsmann an alternative. The [former Spurs striker](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gary-lineker/profil/spieler/22256) said:

> *“Nuno Espírito Santo becomes the 483rd person to turn down the @SpursOfficial job. I’m working with someone who actually would love the job and loves the club. @J\_Klinsmann would be a great fit: charismatic, knowledgeable, experienced and a former player and fan’s favourite.”*

### **The Verdict: Debatable**

From a sentimental point of view, a move for Klinsmann would certainly makes sense. As Lineker said, the German is a [Tottenham legend](https://archive.ph/20120906025930/http://www.klinsmann.com/the-player/) and certainly has plenty of experience in the game as a [World Cup and European Championship](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jurgen-klinsmann/erfolge/spieler/16980) winner. However, based on the 56-year-old’s previous track record as a manager, Levy will perhaps feel he can do better.

Klinsmann started off well in his managerial career, leading Germany to the 2006 World Cup semi-finals. However, he then failed to last a full season at Bayern Munich, and after a decent spell with the USA national side, he lasted just 10 matches at Hertha Berlin in only his second job at club level ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jurgen-klinsmann/profil/trainer/1427)). Quite frankly, that does not scream success – regardless of his connection to Tottenham, the next appointment must be based on results rather than sentimentality.
