That is because according to the [Daily Star](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/391922/Tottenham-set-to-beat-Arsenal-and-Newcastle-to-highly-rated-English-defender-Eric-Dier), Spurs are set to sign highly-rated defender Eric Dier.

Dier, who is an England Under-21 international, was left frustrated with his lack of first team game time for Sporting Lisbon last term and is believed to be interested in a return to England.

As well as the two North London clubs, Newcastle United have also been linked with a move for the 20-year-old former Everton loanee but according to reports, Mauricio Pochettino’s £4 million offer has been accepted by the Primeira Liga giants.

Dier was born in Cheltenham but moved to Portugal with his parents aged ten when his mother was offered a job in the country.

His parents eventually returned to England but he continued to try and break through the ranks in Portugal – eventually breaking into the first team in 2012.

He has made 30 first team appearances for the Jose Alvalade-based side since but it seems his time in Portugal is set to end.
