# Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs launch bid for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

**Tottenham Hotspur have launched a bid for Southampton star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.**

According to [Duncan Castles](https://play.acast.com/s/thetransferwindow), as relayed by [@TranSPURS](https://twitter.com/TranSPURS/status/1274966857691402240), Tottenham have already made an offer for the Saints ace, who was recently stripped of the captaincy by Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Spurs have been linked to Hojbjerg for a number of months after Jose Mourinho identified the Dane at the top of his list of transfer targets, via [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12040/11921706/pierre-emile-hojbjerg-tottenham-want-southampton-captain-in-late-move).

According to [The Times](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/tottenham-hotspur-weigh-up-move-for-southamptons-pierre-emile-hojbjerg-gwjd8hcdj), Southampton will demand £35m for their former captain, despite the fact the Lilywhites had privately hoped he would be available for roughly £20m. Daniel Levy signed Tanguy Ndombele for a club record fee of [£53.8m](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48841318) last year.

Hojbjerg has impressed at St Mary’s over the past few years, which has brought him to [Mourinho’s attention](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12040/11921706/pierre-emile-hojbjerg-tottenham-want-southampton-captain-in-late-move). The midfielder, who played for [Bayern Munich](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pierre-emile-hojbjerg/profil/spieler/167799) in the past, has played 29 games for Hasenhuttl’s side this season, registering one assist, making 2.4 tackles per game, averaging 1.5 interceptions and successfully completing 1.7 clearances per game on average (via [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/101859/Show/Pierre-Emile-H%C3%B8jbjerg)).

[Castles revealed](https://twitter.com/TransferPodcast/status/1274809275811012608) that the Saints have received three offers so far for the Danish international, although “none of them are satisfactory”. Tottenham have offered [cash plus players in exchange](https://twitter.com/TransferPodcast/status/1274809275811012608) but Southampton are refusing to budge, amid interest from [Everton](https://theathletic.co.uk/1806072/2020/05/11/everton-mailbag-hojbjerg-transfers-season-tickets/?article_source=search&search_query=everton).

Mourinho is acutely aware that he will be severely restricted by [a tight budget](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/11720841/jose-mourinho-spurs-transfer-budget-slashed/) in the summer as Spurs bear the full brunt from the economic impact of the coronavirus crisis.

While their asking price is surely more than affordable for a team that is reportedly [the richest in London](https://www.forbes.com/sites/joshualaw/2020/01/14/tottenham-surpasses-chelsea-and-arsenal-as-londons-richest-club--and-mourinho-appointment-is-continuation-of-its-successful-financial-strategy/#311a29f32f1f), clubs are working under unprecedented circumstances.
