# Tottenham: Lilywhites ‘prepared to strike a deal’ for Yannick Carrasco

**Tottenham Hotspur are ready to ‘strike a deal’ for Yannick Carrasco from Atletico Madrid before the end of the transfer window, as per journalist [Jason Burt](https://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/premier-league/spurs-to-make-late-move-for-yannick-carrasco-while-chelsea-set-to-finalise-wesley-fofana-deal-41945805.html).**

### The lowdown

Antonio Conte has [long been an admirer of Carrasco and pursued him in the January transfer window](https://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/premier-league/spurs-to-make-late-move-for-yannick-carrasco-while-chelsea-set-to-finalise-wesley-fofana-deal-41945805.html) too.

Midway through the season, Atletico refused to sell the 28-year-old, who’s been ‘[rejuvenated](https://twitter.com/PremLeaguePanel/status/1341472217402658820)‘ since switching to wing-back, but now their hand might be forced.

They’re ‘[under pressure](https://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/premier-league/spurs-to-make-late-move-for-yannick-carrasco-while-chelsea-set-to-finalise-wesley-fofana-deal-41945805.html)‘ to sell some players to ensure compliance with La Liga’s salary cap.

Carrasco’s contract, which [runs until June 2024](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yannick-carrasco/profil/spieler/140776), is [thought to include](https://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/premier-league/spurs-to-make-late-move-for-yannick-carrasco-while-chelsea-set-to-finalise-wesley-fofana-deal-41945805.html) a [£51million](https://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/premier-league/spurs-to-make-late-move-for-yannick-carrasco-while-chelsea-set-to-finalise-wesley-fofana-deal-41945805.html) release clause.

Spurs have opened talks with Atletico over the potential signing and are ‘prepared to strike a deal’ before the deadline.

It’s unclear as yet how much Los Rojiblancos will demand in order to sanction an exit for the Belgian, labelled .

### The verdict

One of Carrasco’s standout assets is his versatility. [As Burt notes](https://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/premier-league/spurs-to-make-late-move-for-yannick-carrasco-while-chelsea-set-to-finalise-wesley-fofana-deal-41945805.html), he can play not only as an RWB, but also as right winger, LWB and left winger.

In the more defensive role, he [bears similarities](https://fbref.com/en/players/de39485a/Yannick-Carrasco) to [Filip Kostic](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-transfers-bastoni-bremer-kostic-perisic-carrasco-tielemans-jesus-b1002640.html), a player Spurs targeted earlier in the window, as well as Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries.

[As a winger](https://fbref.com/en/players/de39485a/Yannick-Carrasco), meanwhile, he’s stylistically matched with the likes of Jadon Sancho at Manchester United and Adama Traore at Wolves.

Carrasco’s [13 goal contributions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yannick-carrasco/leistungsdaten/spieler/140776/plus/0?saison=2021) last season, [and his 76 for Atletico overall](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yannick-carrasco/leistungsdaten/spieler/140776/plus/0?saison=2021), demonstrate that he can be a real menace going forward.

Dubbed an ‘[extremely underrated](https://twitter.com/Buntingfootball/status/1523390394192449536)‘ player by sports journalist Josh Bunting, he could tie Spurs’ summer window together nicely.
