# Tottenham transfer report typically underwhelming after slow summer

**The Tottenham Hotspur fans here in the Transfer Tavern really are hoping Mauricio Pochettino is able to strengthen his hand before tomorrow’s deadline.**

Though few would doubt the quality available to the Argentine in his starting XI, the options outside of that leave a lot to be desired and our north London locals want an improvement on life at Wembley.

With that in mind, reports from the [London Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-could-delay-ross-barkley-transfer-bid-over-injury-concerns-a3621991.html) haven’t gone down well at all today, even if they are understandable. They [claim](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-could-delay-ross-barkley-transfer-bid-over-injury-concerns-a3621991.html) Spurs are considering a delay in their move for Ross Barkley, following his recent hamstring injury.

Indeed, the 23-year-old has been [touted](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-4797136/Ross-Barkley-s-Tottenham-OFF.html) as a target in north London for months now, though recently tore his hamstring in training and will [reportedly](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-4797136/Ross-Barkley-s-Tottenham-OFF.html) be out for around three months.

While the England international is [believed](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-could-delay-ross-barkley-transfer-bid-over-injury-concerns-a3621991.html) to have been under consideration since last winter by Spurs, there is [said](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-could-delay-ross-barkley-transfer-bid-over-injury-concerns-a3621991.html) to be an uncertainty over whether or not he arrives this summer.

Even in light of his injury, our local Lillywhites truly hope their club buy Barkley, amid [reported interest](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41093101) from Chelsea.

**Landlord’s Verdict:**

Pochettino’s strong record when working with young English talent should seriously excite fans over Barkley. The man clearly has ability and the idea of him returning to full fitness while bedding in with Spurs could see him start his development well.

With Chelsea [said](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41093101) to be keen, Spurs should sign him up, regardless of his injury.

**Thoughts?**
