# Tottenham Hotspur: Monaco interested in Serge Aurier; good news for Jose Mourinho

**Tottenham Hotspur have a lack of options at [right-back](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/players/serge-aurier-tottenham-right-back-18522830) at the moment.**

Although Serge Aurier is available for Tottenham, Spurs could be in a sticky situation if he picks up an [injury](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/players/serge-aurier-tottenham-right-back-18522830). Both Japhet Tanganga, who has become known for [his versatility](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-starlet-japhet-tanganga-jose-mourinho-improving-versatility-full-back-a4430766.html), and [Juan Foyth](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/players/serge-aurier-tottenham-right-back-18522830) are currently out injured. Meanwhile, [Kyle Walker-Peters](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/players/serge-aurier-tottenham-right-back-18522830) will finish the rest of the season with Southampton.

According to [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11675/12019098/serge-aurier-monaco-interested-in-signing-tottenham-defender), AS Monaco are interested in signing Spurs defender Aurier this summer, which could be good news for Jose Mourinho.

Plagued by [problems](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11675/11995016/jose-mourinho-harry-kane-heung-min-son-and-all-tottenham-players-recovered-from-injury) on and off the pitch, it is safe to say this season couldn’t get much worse for Spurs, and Aurier has hardly done himself any favours so far.

Indeed, the Ivorian angered the club’s hierarchy after breaking the government guidelines during [the nationwide lockdown](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/11675766/spurs-aurier-140k-fine-breaking-lockdown/). This isn’t the first time he has been at the centre of attention for all of the wrong reasons.

For whatever reason, Aurier seems to find himself embroiled in controversy at every opportunity. His career has been dotted with [high-profile incidents](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/bad-boy-spurs-signing-serge-11081429) right from the start.

In fact, his lawyers had to plead with [the Home Office](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/bad-boy-spurs-signing-serge-11081429) to let him into the country before Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League tie with Arsenal in November 2016 after he was given a suspended two-month sentence in France for assaulting a police officer.

To make matters worse, his performances on the pitch have left a lot to be desired. At times he has been a total liability this season, making a string of [mistakes and errors](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/tottenham-transfer-news-dani-carvajal-18435225), and Mourinho has turned to scouting Norwich City’s [Max Aarons](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/jose-mourinho-max-aarons-tottenham-18525617) as a result.

Although Aurier is the club’s [first-choice right-back](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/leistungsdaten/verein/148), this has led to [an imbalance](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/jose-mourinho-max-aarons-tottenham-18525617) between the defence and attack on the flank. While the 27-year-old has earned a higher [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/83683/Show/Serge-Aurier) rating than his [Norwich counterpart](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/362103/Show/Max-Aarons), his conduct has come under [increasing scrutiny](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11675/12019098/serge-aurier-monaco-interested-in-signing-tottenham-defender).

Always check this guide for all the info regarding Spurs fixtures and where you can watch the match live in the UK. The **[football on tv](https://www.footballfancast.com/football-on-tv)** guide is the simplest and best in our opinion. As well as fixtures and TV Channels. There are also options on where to watch you can also open a legal stream right there with broadcasters such as SKy Sports, BT Sports, Amazon Prime and YouTube.

Mourinho has never coped well with disruptive influences in the dressing room, as he binned Bastian Schweinsteiger during his time in charge of [Manchester United](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/03/31/jose-mourinho-admits-regret-treatment-bastian-schweinsteiger/). Therefore, Monaco’s interest in the [£14m-valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/serge-aurier/profil/spieler/127032) defender presents the Spurs manager with the perfect opportunity to get rid of the controversial figure.

As it stands, Mourinho could sell Aurier to reinvest the funds in Aarons instead.
