# Tottenham Hotspur: Tanguy Ndombele may join Barcelona; could be good news for Jose Mourinho

**Tottenham’s record signing Tanguy Ndombele has struggled to settle down ever since he arrived last summer.**

Jose Mourinho insisted he was happy with Ndombele’s work ethic in recent weeks, as the Spurs duo broke [the government guidelines](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/news/more-tanguy-ndombele-questions-raised-18459784) to train together during the nationwide lockdown, but he didn’t even get on the pitch on [Friday night](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/news/more-tanguy-ndombele-questions-raised-18459784).

After he again failed to make an appearance against West Ham, [Mourinho](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/tottenham-news-vs-west-ham-tanguy-ndombele-jose-mourinho-rift-dispute-transfer-latest-a9582391.html) was forced to deny rumours of a rift between the pair.

Despite [Daniel Levy’s initial protestations](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/tottenham-hotspur-daniel-levy-makes-big-decision-on-tanguy-ndombeles-future/), Ndombele wants to leave Spurs amid interest from Barcelona, according to [The Independent](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/tottenham-spurs-transfer-news-tanguy-ndombele-philippe-coutinho-jose-mourinho-barcelona-a9583526.html). The chairman seems to have made a quick U-turn once [the La Liga giants](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/tottenham-spurs-transfer-news-tanguy-ndombele-philippe-coutinho-jose-mourinho-barcelona-a9583526.html) entered the mix.

Both clubs are working with [a tight budget](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/tottenham-spurs-transfer-news-tanguy-ndombele-philippe-coutinho-jose-mourinho-barcelona-a9583526.html) and Barca are only interested in a player-swap deal involving either Nelson Semedo or Philippe Coutinho.

[The Portuguese](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-tottenham-told-they-can-sign-superstar-for-8m-next-season/) is reportedly keen to sign Coutinho in the summer, with the Lilywhites working towards [a loan move](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-tottenham-told-they-can-sign-superstar-for-8m-next-season/) with the option to buy.

Although Ndombele has [struggled for consistency](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/news/jose-mourinho-responds-claims-bust-18476657), his omission from the starting lineup in [the past two fixtures](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/news/jose-mourinho-responds-claims-bust-18476657) has raised many eyebrows.

Mourinho could kill two birds with one stone by ditching the 23-year-old and replacing him with Coutinho. Even though Coutinho has failed to replicate the form he enjoyed at [Liverpool](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-philippe-coutinho-transfer-race-arsenal-chelsea-paul-robinson-a4450231.html), he is still a world-class player.

While Spurs will want to recover some of [the costs](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48841318) they spent on the Frenchman, the head coach may decide he would be better off without him in his squad.

As it stands, the two clearly have [a fractured relationship](https://www.footballinsider247.com/tottenham-exclusive-levy-blocks-ndombele-transfer/), and a trade might be beneficial for all parties involved.
