Speaking to Football Insider, former Tottenham striker Darren Bent has claimed that defender Ryan Sessegnon ‘definitely needs to go’ somewhere else in order to garner much-needed playing time, with Premier League side Southampton allegedly on the chase after a Jose Mourinho ‘U-turn‘.
Indeed, as per another report from the media outlet, Spurs are ready to listen to offers for Sessegnon following Mourinho’s alleged reconsideration over letting the player leave on loan, potentially prompting this latest interest from the Saints.
Having already snapped up ex-Lilywhites full-back Kyle Walker-Peters, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side appear to be in the market for another surplus-to-requirement Spurs asset in Sessegnon – and Alasdair Gold hinted that Spurs could consider permanent bids as well as loan offers (Football.London).
However, following a change of heart from the Tottenham manager, Southampton may well be in with a chance of snapping up the youngster on a season-long loan deal, with Bent giving his approval over a potential move.
Should Spurs sell or loan Sessegnon?
Going on to claim that Mourinho hasn’t quite taken to him, Bent insists THAT Sessegnon’s best place for now is a temporary spell elsewhere, especially after Tottenham signed Spanish full-back Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid.
“For whatever reason, Mourinho’s just not taken to him,” explained the ex-Spurs striker.
“He scored on his debut in the Champions League but he never really seemed to get a good run out in the team for whatever reason, I don’t quite know why.
“If he can go over to Southampton and get a good runout – I mean, listen, he’s going to have to bide his time because Bertrand plays – but he can play left-wing, he can play left-wing back. I really like him.
“You’re talking about a guy who a couple of years ago won every single award in the Championship, got to the Premier League with Fulham, done very, very well and if anything he’s regressed a little bit. He definitely needs to go somewhere and start playing football again regularly.”
Whether or not Tottenham loan or sell Ryan Sessegnon remains to be seen, but it could be the best move for him as Mourinho potentially looks to free up space in the squad.
