In an exclusive interview with The Transfer Tavern, Steve Howey, who made 278 appearances during his career, admits he can see Jannik Vestergaard leaving Southampton for Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

The £60,000 per week defender has been linked with a move to Spurs for a while now as they look to bolster a defence that has conceded 38 goals in the Premier League this season.

Southampton have had a season of two polar opposites with the first half of their campaign seeing them beat Liverpool at home, and move to the top of the league in November, but they have been looking over their shoulder towards the bottom three in recent weeks with just three wins since December 16.

Speaking on why Spurs could be looking to sign 6 ft 6 colossus Vestergaard this summer and if he could see the 28-year old making the move to Tottenham, Howey told The Transfer Tavern:

“Yeah, I like him, he’s a big strong boy, he’s decent in possession and is such a threat aerially from set-pieces. So yeah, it wouldn't surprise me if he found himself at Tottenham next season.”

Spurs will be looking to improve their squad this summer after what has been a poor season and despite a strong start, they will once again end up with no trophies.

Tottenham are also still searching for a new manager after Daniel Levy decided that time was up for Mourinho at Spurs, with Ryan Mason now in temporary charge until the end of the season.
