Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that he expects Tottenham to make another enquiry for Milan Skriniar in January.
Return for Skriniar
Spurs were linked with the Internazionale central defender throughout the summer, but the two parties were unable to strike a deal. In the end, it came down to a difference in opinion over the transfer fee.
However, Gold feels that the Lilywhites will make another effort to sign the 25-year-old during the next window. He was asked by a fan during a Q&A whether Spurs would return for Skriniar, and he said:
“I’d be surprised if an enquiry isn’t made in January but much depends on his position at Inter. The Slovakian wanted to come to Spurs but if he’s playing every week and the Italian club do not want to let him go, then it’s going to be a tough to prise Skriniar away.”
Spurs are arguably a little light at the heart of their back four. Toby Alderweireld is still an important player for the London-based outfit, but at 31 he does not have too long left at the top level. Japhet Tanganga remains inexperienced, whilst Eric Dier’s best position is still unknown as he flits between centre-back and central midfield.
Would you like to sign Skriniar?
With Davinson Sanchez the only reliable long-term option, another player in that position would not go amiss. You get the feeling Mourinho knows this, which is why he remains active in the transfer market. According to Gianluca di Marzio, Inter want €60m (£54.3m) for the Slovakia international – a considerable amount of money. Whether Spurs can convince the Serie A outfit to lower their demands is a big question, but you don’t know if you don’t try.
