According to journalist Mohamed Toubache via Get French Football News, Tottenham are ‘very interested’ in signing midfield colossus Ibrahim Sangare this summer, with the club scouting him extensively, but it will take a £13.5m fee to secure his services.
Sangare, who started 25 Ligue 1 matches for Toulouse last season, has been attracting Spurs’ interest as Jose Mourinho gears up for his first full season in charge of the Lilywhites.
Despite recently signing Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Sky Sports), Tottenham’s interest in combative defensive midfielders hasn’t cooled down as per this report, with the club intrigued by the possibility of signing Sangare for even more cover in front of the back four.
The 22-year-old would arguably be a stellar addition as Spurs chairman Daniel Levy plans to look for potential bargain deals over the summer transfer window, especially going by the 6 ft 3 sensation’s numbers last term.
Should Spurs sign Ibrahim Sangare?
Yes, looks like a bargain
No, we have Hojbjerg
According to WhoScored, Sangare averaged an impressive 3.4 league tackles per game in the middle of the park – more than any Tottenham player managed over the entirety of the 2019/20 Premier League season.
The midfielder’s reputation on the African continent also supports the theory that he would be a brilliant acquisition, as journalist Alpha Balde once described him as “like Yaya Toure” but also reminiscent of fellow Premier League cult hero Michael Essien (Goal).
Whether or not Levy opts to take the plunge remains to be seen but, at just £13.5m, Spurs appear to have very little to lose.
