According to a report from Calciomercato, there has been a development in Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer plans involving bright young Belgium international Charles De Ketelaere.
The Lowdown: ‘King Charles’ shines for Brugge…
Over the start of 2021/22, one name who seems to be attracting plenty of attention on the continent is De Ketelaere as he continues to dazzle for Club Brugge.
Should De Ketelaere be a priority for Spurs?
Yes, sensational talent
No, waste of time, need big names!
Drawing comparisons with Liverpool star Roberto Firmino, De Ketelaere’s stunning performances as a false nine have prompted the likes of West Ham, Napoli, AC Milan and Everton to take notice recently (Calciomercato).
As per another report from Calciomercato, it appears that Spurs are also well in contention.
The Latest: Spurs join transfer race…
According to their information, the 20-year-old is still one of Milan’s top targets to strengthen Stefano Pioli’s options in the forward line, but they face stiff competition from Tottenham.
Indeed, De Ketelaere is ‘very popular’ with Antonio Conte and the Lilywhites, who have now apparently ‘moved’ to try and ‘snatch’ him from under Milan’s noses ahead of January.
The Verdict: Huge prospect…
Tottenham’s new manager isn’t the only one who is a fan of the 6 foot 4 forward.
Sharing news after Manchester City’s stunning 5-1 Champions League group stage victory away to the Belgian giants, Calciomercato claimed that Pep Guardiola was ‘impressed’ after De Ketelaere’s individual display – so much so that the attacker was promptly added to City’s transfer target list according to Calcio’s sources, but not much has come out about their interest since.
Regardless, there is a reason why De Ketelaere is attracting attention as one of the brightest talents on the continent, and he would be a versatile, promising signing for Conte. Brugge legend Gert Verheyen recently told Het Nieuwsblad (via Goal) that the youngster is a ‘complete’ player with a ‘mix of technical and physical qualities’.
Although you could argue that the 20-year-old plays in a far inferior division when compared to the bright lights of the Premier League, he has been outshining Tottenham’s forwards this season. According to WhoScored, he has averaged more shots and key passes per 90 in the final third than superstar Spurs duo Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.
