According to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge, as reported by GIVEMESPORT, it would not be a surprise if Tottenham managed to wrap up a deal for AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessié in the January transfer window.

The Lowdown: Kessié nears contract expiry

Kessié arrived at the San Siro in 2019 following a £21.6m transfer from Atalanta. Having made 20 appearances for the Rossoneri so far this season, the 25-year-old has played an integral in Milan’s campaign. He currently leads the squad in terms of passing accuracy with a 90.4% success rate, illustrating his ability to remain calm on the ball.

Despite this, the Ivory Coast international is out of contract in the summer. With a current market value of £49.5m, clubs across Europe could well be lining up to secure the player’s signature on a cheap deal in January.

The Latest: Tottenham tipped to sign Kessié

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Calciomercato) previously reported that Kessié is set to leave Milan after failing to sign a new contract at the club. As a result, he is attracting strong interest from Tottenham, with this interest coming from both manager Antonio Conte and director of football Fabio Paratici.

As the 25-year-old's contract is up in the summer, Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge was asked if Kessié could join Spurs in January. Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said: "That is one I could [see]. If they can get something done with him, it wouldn't surprise me. I think the midfield is clearly in need of a little bit more quality."

The Verdict: An ideal and possible signing

Coming up to just six months remaining on his contract, it is looking increasingly likely that Kessié will leave the San Siro, either in January or the summer 2022 transfer window.

Former AC Milan striker Antonio Cassano has heaped praise on the Ivorian midfielder, claiming that his ‘devastating’ performances remind him of Yaya Touré.

Bridge believes that Spurs need more quality in the midfield area, and with a player likened to the iconic Touré up for grabs, it seems eminently possible that the Lilywhites will make an approach for Kessié in the January transfer window.

Considering that no player in Conte's current squad can match his aforementioned passing success rate, the 25-year-old could well be an ideal coup in terms of adding more composure in the middle of the park for Tottenham.
