As Leeds United reportedly contact previous Tottenham target Julian Draxler over a possible move (RMC Sport), chairman Daniel Levy is in danger of missing out on a potential solution to Spurs’ search for a world-class winger, with the World Cup winner looking like a bargain valued at £21.6m by Transfermarkt.
Sky Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano, speaking to the Last Word on Spurs podcast last week, detailed that the Lilywhites are in search of a wide attacker as well as a centre-back and striker.
Even though Levy may be prioritising the latter position, especially to seek an extra option going forward alongside Harry Kane, Paris-Saint Germain star Draxler could be their answer on the flank.
Should Spurs sign Draxler?
Targeted by ex-Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino and the club back in 2019, as detailed by L’Équipe via Football.London, the German ace can also play in a central attacking midfield role, potentially solving two key issues for Jose Mourinho.
Able to contribute out wide and through the middle, Draxler could be a star option as well as a would-be answer to the lack of creativity from the middle of the park after Christian Eriksen’s departure.
Coming off the back of a disappointing 2019/20 season, perhaps marred by an early pre-season injury, Draxler struggled to fight his way back into Thomas Tuchel’s plans, potentially lowering his market value.
Whether or not Levy reignites his interest in the 26-year-old remains to be seen, but he could be quite a coup if Spurs make a serious move for him.
