According to a report from Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, via Sport Witness, Inter Milan could sell former Jose Mourinho transfer target Ivan Perisic, along with other star names, to fund a swoop for Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante, with Tottenham now potentially being gifted a chance to land the Croatian.
Mourinho has been a firm admirer of Perisic in the past, as detailed in The Athletic via Ronaldo.com, and the feelings are reciprocated on the Coratian’s side, having opened up in the same report over his failed transfer to Man United in 2017 claiming that he ‘really wanted to join‘.
With Inter reportedly willing to sell the 31-year-old and his price tag potentially being around £17.9m, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy could bag an unlikely makeshift back-up option for Harry Kane.
Should Spurs reignite their interest in Perisic?
Yes, get a deal done
No, not what we need
Described as a ‘leader‘ by ex-Nerazzurri boss Luciano Spalletti, while Perisic is hitting the twilight stages of his career and may come at a reasonably heavy price, he could still be an option to consider given his vast experience on the world stage and his utility as a second striker.
He has bagged 40 goals and 35 assists over 163 appearances for Inter in all competitions (Transfermarkt) and, while these numbers don’t reflect a prolific striker’s return, Perisic’s stature and lofty build at 6 ft 1 could represent that of a potential target man who can hold the ball up and bring the likes of Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura into play.
Whether or not Spurs take the opportunity to sign Perisic remains to be seen, but he could be an unlikely candidate for Tottenham ahead of the new season.
