Tottenham Hotspur forward Lucas Moura was at the centre of late interest from the Premier League on deadline day, according to reports.

The Lowdown: What a summer...

An eventful and head-turning 2022 summer transfer window has finally drawn to a close.

Spurs completed eight major signings in total, including an in-house deal for star defender Cristian Romero, with Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Clement Lenglet, Djed Spence and Destiny Udogie coming in from elsewhere.

Members of Antonio Conte's squad were tipped to potentially make a late exit, including promising youngster Bryan Gil, and it now appears Lucas was attracting attention as well.

The Latest: Newcastle make 'deadline-busting' Lucas move...

Indeed, according to reports, billionaire-owned league rivals Newcastle attempted a late coup for the 30-year-old.

Football Insider claim Lucas was central to a 'deadline-busting' swoop from the Magpies as they made a last gasp attempt to sign the Brazilian for their manager Eddie Howe.

An approach was apparently made to take Conte's man on loan for the 2022/2023 season but the move didn't end up coming to fruition.

The Verdict: Good news?

We believe Lucas certainly still has his uses at Spurs ahead of a long and congested campaign where rotation will be a necessity.

The winger etched himself into club folklore with his Champions League semi-final hat-trick against Ajax in 2019, prompting former boss Mauricio Pochettino to call him a 'superhero'.

Meanwhile, Conte himself said just last year that Lucas is 'one of the best players' in his squad and a 'wonderful' person (via Spurs Web).

As per WhoScored, the former Paris-Saint Germain ace's quality is very much evident when he's given an opportunity with Lucas averaging a higher rate of successful take-ons per 90 than any Spurs player last season.
