Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper turned Sky Sports pundit Paul Robinson has been left thrilled by a transfer development involving Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet.

The Lowdown: Spurs talks advance...

As widely reported, Spurs chief Fabio Paratici is in advanced talks to seal another major signing this summer as the Lilywhites allegedly near a loan deal for Lenglet.

Amid the club's search for a left-footed central defender, the 27-year-old is of serious interest to manager Antonio Conte as the Italian prepares for his first full Premier League season in charge at N17.

Paratici has already managed to seal deals for a plethora of incomings before Lenglet, with Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison coming on board during the off-season.

The Latest: Robinson thrilled by Lenglet talks...

Following on from reports of the north Londoners allegedly closing in on Lenglet, Robinson has had his say on the prospective signing.

Indeed, the former England international has been left thrilled, claiming that the Frenchman is still 'top-level' despite his lack of game-time for Barca.

Robinson explained to Football Insider:

“If Spurs can get Lenglet on loan it solves a problem. Everyone is aware of Barcelona’s financial situation. If he does well there will be an opportunity to sign him.

“He is a very good player even though he hasn’t been playing week in, week out. He is a top-level centre-half.

“You have to trust [Fabio] Paratici and Conte. When you look at the signings they have brought in, [Rodrigo] Bentancur and [Dejan] Kulusevski, they weren’t regular starters at their previous clubs. But they have been brilliant for Spurs.

“Lenglet could prove to be another brilliant signing.”

The Verdict: Shrewd...

For zero transfer cost on a temporary deal, Lenglet could serve as a solid backup option and experienced ball-playing centre-half.

As per WhoScored, he averaged a higher pass accuracy (91%) than any Spurs player over the 2021/22 season, with his possible addition adding a degree of composure and assurance in possession.

The 314-match ace has also won a La Liga title and played 42 Champions League games, an aspect of his career which may have appealed to Conte as he wants to instil a winning philosophy at Tottenham.
