Tottenham Hotspur have now joined the race to sign Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah this summer, according to reports.
The Lowdown: Spurs eyeing more signings?
Lilywhites head coach Antonio Conte has refused to rule out his team making more new signings before September 1, dropping a potential hint to the media in the last week.
Who should Spurs sign before the window shuts?
A world class centre-back
This comes after the Premier League top-four chasers sealed summer deals for Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Clement Lenglet, Djed Spence and Destiny Udogie, with reports suggesting that they aren’t done in the market just yet.
Atalanta forward Ruslan Malinovskyi is one name being repeatedly linked with a move to Spurs, but according to a fresh report, it appears that the north Londoners also have their eyes on another new target.
The Latest: Tottenham join Chalobah race…
Indeed, it appears that Chalobah of Spurs’ London rivals Chelsea is now a target for sporting director Fabio Paratici.
Indeed, it is claimed that Conte’s side are now in the mix for Chalobah alongside Roma and Inter Milan, with the report going on to state that the Blues defender ‘could seek either a loan or permanent move’ amid the west Londoners’ talks to sign Leicester City star Wesley Fofana.
The Verdict: Make the move?
Homegrown and tipped to ‘improve the squad’ by Evening Standard journalist Dan Kilpatrick, the 23-year-old has many years ahead of him in a potentially promising career – not to mention that reporters like Adi Joseph (CBS Sports) have raved over Chalobah’s ‘quality’.
The fact that he could leave permanently as well as on loan is another incentive for Spurs to move for the 23-year-old, given that Conte could arguably use another option to further reinforce his backline.
With Spurs having to cope with Champions League football on top of an already congested fixture list, Chalobah’s prospective addition could be a smart one, but it remains to be seen if the Blues would be willing to do business with a geographical and positional rival.
