BBC Radio 5 Live pundit Alan Hutton claims Tottenham Hotspur could lose winger Lucas Moura in 2023, coming after the news that the Brazilian plans to let his deal run down.

The Lowdown: Lucas exit near?

The Spurs speedster, who etched himself into N17 folklore with a Champions League semi-final hat-trick against Ajax in 2019, could soon leave the club with his contract expiring next year.

Indeed, Lucas' deal runs out in 2023 and reports in the last week have suggested that he is keen to let it run down and leave on a free transfer.

Football Insider have claimed that is what the 30-year-old intends to do, with former Lilywhites defender Hutton now stating he could well be on the move next year.

The Latest: Hutton makes Lucas exit claim...

The Scotsman, speaking to FI, says that Spurs won't be keen to let him leave on a Bosman but believes Lucas simply won't put pen to paper on fresh terms.

He explained:

I don’t think any club wants to let an asset go for nothing.

But, it’s the situation he’s in a the moment, with the players that are in front of him, he’s obviously going to find it more difficult to get that game time that he wants.

I can understand from a player’s point of view he’s not got long left on his contract so that’s pretty much the only option he has at this moment in time to obviously let it run down.

Do I see him signing a new one? No, not really so I think that’s probably best. If he does play I’m sure he’ll give it his all that way he’s in the shop window for the next club.

So I think it’ll work out for both clubs but it’s not ideal to run your contract down.

The Verdict: Shame...

The forward, who managed more successful take-ons per 90 than any Spurs player last season, will be a sore miss for Conte and co next campaign.

Spurs' head coach, according to Lucas himself, has told the player just how 'important' he is for them and his stats display that he can make a real attacking impact when given the opportunity.

Indeed, losing the South American for free certainly isn't ideal but supporters may wish him all the best given Lucas' past contribution for the club.
